cs nanners help

ElGuapo, thanks much, will run lower branches as long as possible, gives me hope on getting some seeds. Thanks for the tip on using veg nutes for seed production after taking the top colas.

. The extra nitrogen helps in seed formation and will also help lengthen the lifespan of the plant.

do you have any proper biology or horticultural proof of this ? ive always done fine (useually 100% germ rate) with normal flowering nutes , was told a while back to cut back the N more then normal and bump up the K , did it and got my first piss poor batch of seeds (approx 80% germ rate)

so after years and years of breeding with stellar results i am gunna stick to typical flowering ferts untill someone shows me proof why i should change things

I have no proof at all, just a recollection of a past thread from this board saying that seeded plants will continue to need some nitrogen for seed development.

Quick update on my 1st CS attempt (& indoor grow).
Lessons learned by a newbie:
Start the female plant to be CS'd 2 or 3 weeks before the plants to receive the pollen. It takes ~ 3 weeks for the plants to show pistels & ~ 2 weeks of spraying for the CS'd plant to show "balls".
CS'd plant nanners do not (at least in my limited experience) produce much pollen. If your experience is like mine with regular photo plants & regular males you'll wonder where the pollen is :(, no "pollen showers" here.
When (if) I do this again I think I would start the CS'd plant 3/4 weeks ahead & collect pollen to be painted on the females. I'm a hobby grower & am not interested in a large seed crop or long term storage.
All comments from experienced breeders welcome, this is just a couple of comments that might help other newbies that want to try this.
Also thanks to all helped.

Another question - harvesting the seeds.
I've read the "when to harvest your seeds" thread & believe I have a good idea on what to look for & when to harvest but have another question. I would like to get some bud to smoke if possible - can always use some lower thc smoke for the fall & spring trout fishing when I need to actually function . Is it advisable to flush when the seed pods appear? The main thing is to get seeds, but if I can avoid the "won't stay lit, snap, crackle, & pop bud" it would be a bonus.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually done it both ways.
Flowering nutes used were Botonicare Pro Bloom for soil (says on the container - all natural & organic), but who knows . Soil was Scott's "plain" top soil with perlite & vermiculite added (2 parts top soil, one part perlite & one part vermiculite.
Thanks.

OK, finishing up, & I'm getting some seeds. I'll find out if they will germ next spring.
Thanks to all who gave this newbie advice. This was my 1st inside, autos, CS treating a plant for seeds grow. I'll skip the inside grow mistakes I made that are not related CS pollinating.
My Lessons Learned on getting fem auto seeds using CS:
Once you have some CS (see CS thread), start the plant to be sprayed at least 2 weeks before the plants to be pollinated. I'd also start spraying the plant just before "hairs" appear if you're familiar it. I started all plants together.
Don't expect a lot of pollen - i.e. the pollen you get from a "regular" male photo plant.
I just shook the CS'd plant that was in front of a fan, it worked but I was late in getting nanners (see above) & many buds didn't get pollinated. Next time I would collect pollen ahead of time & "paint" the buds I wanted pollinated. As mentioned in other threads by folks far more experienced than me, it allows you control of the pollination process & seeds will form in the same time frame - I had a few "white" seeds in a couple of buds from late pollination.
It's been interesting, thanks for all the help on this great web site, & now on to "cursing & swearing" this spring figuring out the difference between growing autos & photos outside .

funny , i start my plants to be reversed a week or 2 AFTER my plants to recieve the pollin

but i dont collect and brush on the pollin either , so i want my girls to have quite a lot of pistils developed (needed to recieve the pollin) by the time the pollin starts flying

oh and once again ill mention this ,,,, i get just as much pollin from a reversed plant as i do a normal male , most likely because i reverse the ENTIRE plant and it becomes full male

everyone has thier own ways , and whatever works best for someone is what counts

peace

Bob, maybe it was just me being a newbie but by the time I was getting "busted nanners" on the CS she-male a lot of the higher buds on the female plants had red hairs & they were starting to "shrivel". I figured this was why they didn't get pollinated?
The MI5 she-male did not produce a lot of pollen, nothing like I've seen outside on a photo male - shake it over a female & you get a "pollen shower".
I had the she-male in front of a fan, blowing towards the females, & shook the she-male once or twice a day, & many buds never got pollinated. I also collected some pollen for a friend towards plant "end of life" & didn't get much?
As I said, this was my 1st time, maybe I was making mistakes I wasn't aware of, or just different strains & grow techniques?

practice makes perfect they say

and its a fun hobby so i practice it A LOT :D

best of luck with future C.S fun

peace

Bob, yeah, it was an interesting "experiment", I got some fem seeds (I hope), & was posting to help other newbies (& hopefully not confuse them ).

One last question to those with CS experience, does anything have to be done different to CS a photo female? Figured you'd start spraying the day you changed to 12/12?
Thanks.
