Outdoor Crow's GG at 56ºN

Oh I know! I've gone a bit mad I think.

Growing seems to snowball from dipping the toe in, to full blown obsession quite rapidly! Or at least that's how it's worked out for me.

Really this season is just about testing different approaches, seeing what works and what doesn't. Come the autumn I'll be in a better position to judge what's best for my latitude and microclimate, soil, locations, etc. Then next outdoors season I'll try a more stripped back approach. Still need numbers outside, because of pests, mould, vandals, rippers and coppers. But maybe not quite as many as this season...

How many have you got growing out there?

More than I care to mention in a public forum! 😉

Let's put it this way, more than is probably sensible given I'm purely doing this for fun, and personal use. But I can't help it, I love growing! 💕 I kinda enjoy gardening anyway, I grow fruit and veg at my allotment plot. Great training for GGing...

Was a bit windy to be transporting plants to the photoperiod plot, so I went to visit the Auto Ducks again. Had time to check on the smaller girls, hidden away in secret corners. Also took some better pics of the larger girls. In the process of looking at them all more closely, it seems clear that the smaller girls are quite behind the larger girls. This is partly to do with head starts, but also conditions. The bigger girls are in buckets of compost, coco with some perlite (the compost was mostly reused from indoor grows), and get long hours of full sun. The smaller girls are in native soil with some compost and coco mixed in. They get fewer hours of sun, and one has been nibbled by caterpillars (though that seems to have stopped, maybe they became butterflies or moths). Also the larger girls were topped, while the smaller ones are growing untrained. Still, they are all in flower. If all goes well, the larger girls should give a decent yield. Apart from anything else, it's certainly interesting seeing how the same strain responds to different conditions.

A quick roundup on the girls in veg cab and tent, which all should have been planted out by now.

Veg cab is like a jungle these days. The girls look a bit hungry, they had a feed the other day but just plain council pop today. Hopefully they will go out tomorrow...

large.IMG_20230702_191922.jpeglarge.IMG_20230702_191943.jpeg

Over in the small tent, the seedlings are now definitely in veg. Getting bushy, they will move to the veg cab as soon as it's free. You can maybe just see some tiny @Sawney_bean auto seedlings on the right hand side. As soon as the bigger girls move to the veg cab, these will be getting potted up and their sisters will join them (currently by the window).

large.IMG_20230702_190839.jpeg

I also have loads of clones, plus four mums, by the window. I'll just pick out one plant to show you here: this amazing Joshua clone. I managed to get a fair few rooted cuts from a single @brock1 bean. This girl has been sitting by the window for a couple of months, and is now in full flower. Extraordinary plant given the small amount of soil she has (0.6 litres if you're lucky). Rather than inflict outdoors on her, I'll flower her out indoors instead. She'll sit by the window a bit longer, then finish in a tent...

Finally managed to plant out the six girls from the veg cab this evening. Put up a perimeter fence, mainly because it was quicker and easier. Can extend it slightly when the three clones go in there. You can see one hole left unplanted, a Frisian Duck clone will go in there.

Left hand side are two Essex Gold, centre and front are two BCN Critical XXL Fast, back is a Guerrilla Gold Pie Fast, right is a Sweet Afghani Delicious.

Now that the first wave has gone out, I had the chance to move the second wave girls into the veg cab. They'll have a bit more space to spread out, and get a different mix of light including some UV. These girls will be going out as soon as there's a plot ready.

From top left clockwise, Guerrilla Gold Pie x 2, Shaman x 3, Citrus Burst x 2 (front row), Kush Mintz.

After the rain eased off a bit, I went to the railway plot to check on the girls. No need to water, but I was worried that the strong winds at the weekend might have caused some damage. As it turned out, everything was fine except one cage had been blown over. I managed to get some decent photos as I went early evening. Almost worth getting soaking trews and feet making my way through the wet undergrowth.
:)
No signs of human activity, except more fresh graffiti in a bridge arch.

The girls are 72 days old, and some have quite a lot of brown pistils on their buds. Didn't spot any signs of mould or rot, a few leaves have been munched on a couple of plants, that's about it. We will get a few drier days later this week, but the weather's looking "changeable", so showers and thunderstorms ahead. While it's great not having to do water runs, a wee bit of sunny dry weather in say a fortnight would be really helpful to ripen those buds...

Slaughtered Lamb - stayed small, about 40cm high.

@Crow River ive got a couple of these (not specifically these ones)
I’m sure u got an SD card but that will put your mind at ease trust me lol
Yeah bought a cheap trail cam last year. Haven't used it so far.

I mean, if somebody's going to steal my plants, or rip them up vigilante style, or the pigs take them away, that's that. Getting them on camera isn't going to stop them. What am I going to do? Put a contract out on them?

I have a few plots now, no point worrying. If it all goes to shit, well I've still learned a lot...
