Grow Room Contemplating grow room

My concern would be sanitation, air exchange, grow medium/method with lights deciding the tail end of the budget.

Others mentioned a dehumidifier and that could be mounted so that it can naturally drain and reuse the water. InkBird controllers are an option. There are inline HEPA filter to clean incoming air.

You could frame the walls with insulation foam and then staple orcafilm.

Any idea what you want for lighting?

The area is raised slightly above floor in rest of basement and I've never seen any water or anything in that area.

What sanitation concerns would you have?

Currently I'm using soil and a SF1000 light (2nd one coming this week)

Could probably use reflectix which is insulation with a shiny reflective surface for basement as well.

If you want to save bucks, flat white paint on walls works just fine - the difference between it and the more expensive options are small, and the bigger the grow space, the smaller they are. The insulation issue may be more important, so your reflectrix idea may well be a good plan. If you haven't considered VPD charts, they are your friend. They will show you the combination of temperature that you want to shoot for. It sounds as though you definitely need heat, and at least initially, higher humidity would be better. As someone else mentioned, Inkbird makes nice controllers that can handle both heat and humidity.

Good luck with the new grow space.

Ideally a grow room should be clean in my opinion so having porous, unless the concrete is sealed, surface is potential for mold and pathogens. Plants will transpire 99% of the water they take in so adequate airflow and good cleaning habits go a long away.

With such an open space I would be less concerned with highly reflective surfaces but that's up to you. I think insulating would give you more environmental control though.

As far as temp I'll likely need a bigger heater to maintain temp. Natural temp in that room with no heater is 59F
Strongly consider a radiator heater. Ceramic heaters are very dry.

Am I crazy or am I seeing signs that previous person who lived here was growing? Always wondered why someone cut this hole into dead space you can't see from anywhere and now I'm thinking it was for ventilation? Also looks like they had panda film set up everywhere based on the plastic still held in place by staples? There are staples everywhere in this area.

That’s HILARIOUS! Looks like you weren’t the first with that idea! Best of luck with the new space...

So I'm finally going to start getting this space ready. I bought some of the reflective film.
Do I use the film to enclose entire area (floors, walls, ceiling)?

Starting small I think. Have 2 spider farmer 1000 lights and a marshydro sp3000.
