Hi everyone!
New here

Lots of people say that cloth bags are best for cannabis, but my gf says they won’t work for New Mexico low humidity
Any experience?
Thanks!

Idk if thats completely true or not. I would assume the dry conditions would cause you to water more often. I guess it really depends how dry is dry.

@maynardg :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome:Krebs? Yeah I am an oldy moldy.

I live in the San Joaquin Valley of California we are hot & dry here in the summer. Cloth is ok for outdoors but you should use 7 gallon or bigger to help with the rapid dry back the hot dry air will cause. The larger commercial level growers around these parts use 100 gallon containers to grow some real monsters. They are all on drip irrigation.

Also I would grow strains that originate in hot climates.

Sounds like your in a prime spot for a side by side test. :goodluck:

Blocking, shading, etc. strong sun from hitting the pots will help to avoid rapid drying out and the medium/soil otherwise getting too hot. Also, pots being white on the outside will help (reflect light/heat).

Or you might consider putting cloth pots within a larger box/container - full shade and protection from wind plus retain air pruning of roots.

Southern California here. Routinely triple digit heat and uber low humidity. Fabric pots work. As mentioned, you will want a larger one to hold moisture. 7 gallons will not likely be enough!

Here is my last photo grow in a 20 gallon. Amnesia Haze at 11+ feet tall and I should have used a bigger pot. Note the shade cloth wrapped around the pot to help with the evaporation.

PS - bug netting is your FRIEND on outdoor grows in the heat.

PSx2 - the good thing about fabric pots is if your plants outgrows the pot, you can literally cut the pot down the side, peel it off and replant in a larger fabric pot and they usually won't miss a beat.

EDIT - I was assuming that you were going Photo outdoors. But auto = same rules apply. I would go 10 gallon fabric along with anything else like the bug net. Shade cloth for the pot, etc.

Thanks @GreenBean! That's what I needed to know. It likely won't get above 90 degrees F here in Santa Fe, but the sun is very intense at 7,000 feet up the mountain! Man, that Amnesia Haze looks great. We grew some last summer, and it is very sweet and smooth sativa high. This is my best bud from last year, but now I know what to do, and the buds will be much larger I'm sure.
