New Grower Compacted soil ??

Okay...I went and lifted her a bit so she can get some circulation around her. While there, I poked through the top of the soil and did hit, too many for my liking, hard spots, or resistance. I'm really starting to hate this soil as there are so many boulders and logs.

Also, I see that on all the plants, the stem is a purple..... Hers is purple but turning white and tapering smaller near the soil. Could this be the start of something not good? Also while poking, I hope I didn't upset her roots. <sigh> Time will only tell.

Can you characterize w/o being too specific, where you're from? By that I mean west of the Rockies vs. East
(If in the U.S.)

The reason I wonder, is that the East coast facility for producing Fox Farms soils seems to have WAY more
problems than the West coast facility.

weird.

I'm just west of the rockies and up until now, my store has been supplied
by the West coast facility, but now they told me Fox Farms is forcing East
coast on them, so I'll be changing mediums I think.

I do have to say though, that every bag of Happy Frog I've bought (4)
has been great. It's a bummer that there are so many horror stories
though. I've heard of bags of FFOF being 4 ph out of the bag....:(

That's terrible! I have started looking for different soils myself. Which one are you leaning towards? I've heard some good about Promix. Is this good? I think you have to nute from the beginning though which really shouldn't be a problem. More control I would think.

thanks for your help!

I'll most likely be switching to either Roots Organic 707 or Sunshine #4

I like something with just a little "pre-charge" so I can just water
the first week or two. That's why I liked the Happy Frog.

Is there anything on the bag that identifies what facility it was processed at?

Howdy...I use FFHP also, but I'm east coast..I've found a small amount of junk in the soil but not really too bad..The PH was about 6 to start. After two or three weeks it fell to 5.5,so I started using PH up..I also didn't cut it with anything..Next time my plan is to mix perlite, about 1part per to 2part soil. Fill the pot about half ways add some lime then fell the rest of the way...

:peace:
