Lighting Cobshop.net info, questions and answers

Thank you. Everyone is killing it. The 6500’s are more for supplementing the 3500’s. The 3500k is king when it comes to veg and flower with what I feel the perfect spectrum. The 6500k is very blue and more for veg and can be helpful in late flower for boosting resin.

For a 3x3 I’d run 4-3500’s
For a 4x4 I’d run 4-3500’s and 1-2 6500’s
For a 5x5 I’d run 6-3500’s and 2-6500’s.

They can be used to increase coverage area too. Which is what I usually do and recommend.

As far as par goes the higher the temp the higher the efficiency. They use phosphor to coat the cobs which changes the spectrum. Since the cob is blue to start with they have to add less to the higher temps, (6500). I will say with certainty that you wouldn’t notice any growth increase based on the efficiency part.
@BigSm0 :cool1: I really appreciate the info. I really like the idea of pulling 60W/light and yielding 2 gms/watt. If I could be that successful I would be very grateful.

I honestly don’t see it as a problem at all. @slowandeasy pulled something like 3.89gpw. I have been getting over 2 since I started with them. With more efficient lighting you get more useable light and that helps cut the wattage. Wattage is just energy consumed and not light. Efficiency X wattage is what equals light.

Ppfd is light that hits the canopy. With these being directional there are less losses over regular leds or bulbs since the lights not bouncing off of objects. As light travels it loses intensity so if its traveling further by being redirected there can be a substantial loss. The individual cob helps you set individual heights to maximize coverage. With big lights you need to keep them above the tallest plant while shorter plants suffer. Now you can set each light exactly as you want which will maximize every bit of light that comes from the cob.

Probably didn’t need all that but it’s really part of the reason so many people are doing so well. On top of this I really can’t figure it out but the exact cob I use hasn’t been beat in any of my side by side grows and I’m constantly doing them. I have ran a dozen if not more cobs. Higher efficiency, more wattage, less wattages. Just about everything and nothing comes close.

You really can’t get all these benefits with any other light. 2gpw is a cake walk. One more thing, no other light company in history will ever spend time with growers or try to help like I do. My times been very limited here lately but I do regularly check in to help or assist when I can.

Cobs will yield 2g per watt all day if you have decent genetics and a good environment. You can definitely max that out if you use the right strains. They don't produce a ton of heat, but you don't need them super close to your plants. Finding the right distance is important with cobs. Start further away and lower as tolerated.

Those colors are absolutely beautiful. Such a wonderful pot of resin glowing from feet away.

I do appreciate the kind words too. Seems like 10 years ago now but I remember the initial chats I had with the Afn boss man as I began this journey. All I wanted to do was get better lights in everyone’s hands, offer an option that made it easy to do and most importantly a light that was affordable. Last week I got another order from one of the first AutoCob owners. Budget was tight then and I remember him thanking me a dozen times for this option to buy completed lights when he could scratch together the money. 20 cobs later he is still working towards his whole room cob goal. This individual order means more to me than the 20&30 cob orders I have had. It’s an honor to serve Afn and the AutoCob family.

Been meaning to ask this question and now seems like an opportunity. How many hours do you expect the lights to go for?

I have some going for 2 years straight and I still haven’t seen a cob stop working either. 3 year warranty covers you for a long time too. I use them as lighting inside by 20x20 shed. One is on a switch and the other is on 24/7

I keep saying it’s a bad time and have been saying this for 2 years. Well I’m doing it.

Happy birthday to my 4year old. She is in store for an amazing 4 days.

Some may know that there are 5% off codes floating around IG, when I get back I will be entering a full time 5% off code for Afn members.

Another thing is that I am planning to attend the first ever autoflower cup in Oregon. By special invite!! I won’t be selling lights there but gladly taking orders.
