I have a 4x8 tent. And I have a the following light/filter/fan configuration. I am using just one fan and trying to use it for the filter/odor and for managing temps in the tent.

This is all inside the tent.

  1. Charcoal filter Joined directly to....
  2. 8 Inch fan that is not on a timer but uses a temp controller to turn the fan on or off depending on temperature in the tent. The fan is pulling air out of the tent via the filter. And then it pushes that air thru ducting tube too....
  3. 600 watt HPS light in a cool tube that is on a time too run 18 hours per day, which pushes air thru a duct tube to....
  4. Another 600 watt light in a tube on a timer, which then vents to the outside
So I have the lighting controller by a timer.
And the fan is controller by temperature.

So there will be times when the lights are off, and the fan is not running. During this time, will I have odor coming out of the tent because the fan is not on? If so, what are my options to make this work better?

a lot of folk that run cooltubes will have a set up similar to yours.only the filter is not used, that makes cooling the lights much more effective.on a timer same as lights.
downside is they need another fan to put that filter on.it runs 24/7 to contain the smells.
good luck.
:pighug:

Take your blower off the timer so it can run 24/7,and get a variable speed controller and plug your blower into it and you can turn it up or down to regulate your temps.Your exhaust fan intake fan and circulating fan should be on at all times.

So with two fans I'll have a lot of cooling and a lot of air being removed. The fan with the filter runs 24x7. And the cool tubes and their fan will run based on the timer (auto lighting schedule like 18 hours per day) on the lights, and also the temp controller on the fan. So at times both fans will be running. When that happens, that might cool the tent too much and reduce my temps right?

The blower is not on a timer. Its tied to a controller with a thermostat on it instead of a speed controller. It's either going to run full speed, or be off.

But you are saying there should be a constant 24x7 ventilation so that I'm exchanging air for plants to grow right. And I also need the filtering to be 24x7 too right? So could I just use my existing single ventilation setup with cooltubes and fan and filter and just run the fan 24x7 so that even though the lights may be off for a period, the fan will always run? And my fan is a high CFM 8 inch unit, so I could get better control by adding a speed controller set to slow or medium so I don't have too many CFM suckage happening and I can keep some heat in the tent. Is that what you are recommending?
