New Grower Candy Cane Auto - Mega Crop - Promix HP

:welcome:Hi @BCBUDY welcome to AFN! :welcome: I just looked up your light and they talk about 12" to 15" height and you are running 30" so I think you should verify the hang height?

:vibe:
Hey @Mañ'O'Green , thanks for the warm welcome!

Light height is something I've actually been struggling with. I haven't been able to find anyone using a single ES180.

Here's the thing though, what you were probably looking at is the ES180 Version 2. I have the first version. So the number charts and recommendations on their site are going to differ from what I have.

That being said, I'm not sure where you found a recommendation of 12" - 15". I can't find those numbers anywhere. I'm seeing 18" - 21".

But beyond that, I'm just sort of going off of what the sheet that came with the light says, which is 36-48" for seedlings, 24-36" for veg and 12-20" for flower. Now, wether or not they just tossed in the same sheet that they use with their ES300, I don't know, but maybe I should shoot them an email for better clarification.

Edit: I remember I actually emailed the owner (Dan, very cool guy) about this very question, because when I received the light, I was researching and some people were talking about 20" height, so I asked about that and this was the Dan the owners response;

"Hey!

Thanks for writing in. You'll want the ES180 as far as possible from your seedlings. At least 36 inches. The 20 inches is when the plants are in full veg.

Especially because this is your first grow, I recommend leaving the ES180 at a high height and not moving it until the plants are in about week 3-4 of veg after seedling, when they look really healthy and look like they can take more light. The lenses really do intensify the light downwards. Some growers are eager to drop the light down really quickly, but that can cause problems especially because it's your first time.

You'll get the hang of it shortly!

Dan"

So I guess that clarifies that. In fact, if anything I might need to raise it up higher still! :doh: But I'm going to keep the light at where it's at now and keep an eye on things. If after raising the feed doesn't help, I'll probably raise the light another few inches for a couple of weeks and then lower it once the girls are more established.

Here's a picture of the sheet that came with my light.

So as day 5 comes to an end, the leaves have levelled out a bit, which is good. I'm still not a big fan of the colouring, I feel like they could be a bit darker green, but I'm hoping that with the next feed at a higher ppm, that'll sort itself out. We'll see.

@BCBUDY

Wonder no more on light / height, always get it right with a PAR Meter .... I use this one religiously get dialed in perfect.

Ahh yes, I've been considering one of those. Though I've been reading that models a fair bit less expensive would work well too. Is there something that your more premium model can do better than the models under $100?

The right tool for the right job :thumbsup: but just in case @BCBUDY does not have 400 bucks just lying around I think he could just lower those lights some?

haha, ya I don't have $400 available at the moment, but I replied to your suggestion of lowering the lights, with some information the owner of Green Sunshine Company gave me via email when I asked about hanging height.

Looking at the difference in light meters, I can see that the model @MrOldBoy is recommending is a PAR meter and the model others are using is a LUX meter. LUX meters don't show all of the light waves from LED lights, so a LUX meter with LED lights would apparently be useless, if I'm correct and the expensive PAR meter is the only way to get an accurate reading. Am I getting this right?

LUX Meters are useless with LED .....

As for the investment- these are such high value plants, I consider it worth the one time investment .... That meter help me grow a monster Battle Plant that took first place - yield was 12 oz plus some real nice screen keef that blew us away ......

Currently the plants are for sure not over what they can handle, lowering light probably will help ..... And I understand the confusion between first generation and this generation .... But a phone call or email to Dan, the Owner, and I’m sure you’ll find out ....

PS .... I do not know of any cheap meters, I’m using one used by many light manufacturers but I do know their are more expensive!

Peace,
MOB

BTW ... You want a Monkey Fan, do search if not familiar and probably couple more of the cheaper stationary fans you have .... I had five fans in my 2x4 tent but then my plant was HUGE and her sister was fair size as well!

Thanks man!

Yea I've spoken with Dan the owner via email. I asked about the light height (this was back when they only had version 1) and he replied with the following:

So based on his response, I'm guessing I'm good to go with hang height.
