First time trying to grow in winter. My grow room is in an unheated area. It is a nice 76F inside, but when I open the door to water, they get hit by current outside temps for a few seconds. Currently they are at day 34 and looking very healthy. Outside the room, It has been in the 20F's, but will go down to the single digits soon. Anyone have experience with the effects of cold air on plants or this type of growing condition?

Few seconds won't cause any harm

if theyre getting too cold mate they should let you know by turning stems and buds purple

Couple of minutes are nothing compared to 24 hours.
But yea, longer time in cold ---> stunted, slow growth.

Why not buy a little electric heater with a thermostat to take the chill off the bit outside the room, no idea if that's possible because I don't know your house, or to use inside the grow room just to get the room back up to temperature faster?

That's what I do, my grow room is a utility room and I stuck a 1kw fan heater in there just so I could keep temperatures stable as the hallway outside that room is unheated, and using an electric fan heater also stirs the air round and keeps the humidity down which has obvious benefits as well as stabilising temperatures.

I did OK at 11F the other night. The room went down to 60F. It shouldn't get too much colder than that this winter, maybe a few single digits. Plants are healthy and don't mind the occasional cool breeze during watering..

I am unable to heat the outer room. There are screens in the roof soffits that allow air to flow through.

Is the cold actually changing your setups temp? Or are you just referring to a quick cold draft when you enter and exit, with little temp fluctuations in the room? If the latter, I wouldn't worry about it.

Edit, just saw your next post, 60 is workable in small bursts, had autos outside here, with a late Sept harvest, night time Temps were into the low 60*s regularly.

I get what you mean about heating the outer room, but I'd still be tempted to heat the grow room a bit just to be sure. No idea what size the room is, but you can get little ceramic fan heaters that can heat up a small room on the likes of 600w like my utility room (about 4' x 4', usual 9' height), on a thermostat so you can set a "minimum" temperature of, say, 65° just to keep things more stable, and it allows some cooling like "nature" does at night. Although weed is new I'm used to growing assorted things for fun like tomatoes, chilli peppers, and so on and it's something I do because I believe plants like stability over anything else.

Again, without knowing more, I don't know how viable this would be.

My intake comes from a heated room, so temps have been good. Usually 76-82F day, and 70F night. Along with my HPS, I have two cheap/crappy 300W LCD panels that I use more for heat than light. Running 24/0.
