Indoor Calling All Experts!!! Need advice for Snow Ryder.

If you cut the leaves it'll dry faster in my experience and not as uniform. I remember at first it was drying in the same room you grow in. I assume that's a low RH room.. what was your RH while drying? Mine is 35% and the temperature is 80. My buds dry enough to drop in jars after 2 days, sometimes around 60 hrs at most. If it's a smell that has to be "pulled" out, I'm shit out of luck.. but my buds are always fresh and sticky. Just sometimes they have no aroma or very floral aroma. If it's a good stinky strain already, they have a stinky aroma. Thank you for using lettuce and nothing else!! It's worth it!!!

I don't think you cut too late bro, I know you were worried about that - I think they just dried too long in the environment they were put in to dry. Don't fret though, drop the lettuce leaf in, close 'em up for 6-8 hours, pop it open for about 10 minutes, shake the buds around, rinse repeat.. depending on how dry the buds are you're more towards the 8 hours, just keep an eye on the moisture and don't close em up for 8 hrs too wet.

Rebel u might have just let it hang a little to long i had the same problem when i cut my big devil #2s i let um hang for a week but the humidity was real low so it dried out really quick then when i put it in the jar it was brittle dry so i said fuck it and smoked the shit out of it

Thanks Sniper. Only trouble is they were dried out before I even chopped them. That's another reason why I was concerned they were drying out too fast while they were still in the pots. I need to know why that happened. What I did or didn't do that caused them to dry up. Or just simple fact that I waited too long to cut them. When the buds swell, that's when the THC is forming, correct? So when they are done swelling should we chop? I know the trichs, I always get told watch the trichs but every time I've watched the trichs I've never gotten a good harvest. I feel like I did it again... I waited too long to harvest them.

You're being too down on yourself dude, if you were watering regularly - you can't wait too long to chop them (speaking strictly about 'drying out'), I'm telling you they're not gonna shrivel up and die while still intact on the plant, they'll herm before they die - did they herm? no! I honestly believe it was your conditions you dried in - while the curing/drying thread is great, it DOES require the hygrometers recommended (one for room, one for jars). When you're first learning to dry your bud, you have to get know the environment - you should check the buds daily and observe how they're drying. Like I said, mine really dry in 48-60 hrs from chop. You didn't wait too long bro, believe me!!! Maybe dried a bit too long, but it's not the end of the world!!

Sorry WG I missed your reply. Yeah personally I don't want the buds to take on the taste of whatever is helping it. So the lettuce suits me just fine. O.K. I see what you're saying about harvest time. I'm probably over analyzing again! It's only my second grow and first auto grow. It will take a few grows to get things down. It's a process of learning through doing. Yeah the first one was in there about a day with the HPS then moved. I probably did dry them too long. I don't have anything to gauge humidity just my own guess. I'm usually pretty good but I need a device to give me a true & accurate reading. Cash is low at the moment so at least I have a month before next harvest. A little time to pick something up.

Yeah I see what you mean. I'm just a little stoned as well and over thinking. Sorry for being a cry ass! Yeah I checked them a few times a day and they were pretty dry within a few days. I waited til the branches snapped as opposed to bending. Maybe I should have watched the buds more than branches?

Well... with a harvest right around the corner, thank ya for the lettuce tip goodie! Hadn't ever heard of it but definitely makes the most since. Sorry WVR im not too sure about the meter you're talking about, but i just have a cheap lil $5.00 meter that i bought off amazon. Its actually a little too bulky to put in the jar, so I have to lay it down carefully to make sure not to smash the greenery. But yea, im sure you'll see changes pretty quick with the lettuce. How long have you been leaving them closed up between burps..or have they stayed closed and still no moisture pulled to the outside?

I always use a hygrometer. They can be picked up for less than $20, and definitely worth every penny. I would never use a piece of lettuce to raise the humidity. I always use humidity beads, or boveda 65% rh packs. Boveda packs run just a couple of bucks, and are sold at most cigar shops. The humidity beads are a bit more expensive, but will last forever if taken care of properly. If you choose beads, only use distilled water to moisten the beads. They will release humidity until the rh in the jar reaches the target humidity, and will not over humidify, like lettuce can. I have found that pot smokes best between 60%-65% rh, just like my cigars. Mold can form at any RH over 70%, as long as temps are over 70f. But mold will never form if rh is maintained at 65%.

Beads can be found here.

Boveda packs can be picked up cheaply at ebay.

Hope this helps.

Hey JM. Thanks for letting me know about how cheap you can pick up a gauge.

Hey HHL! Good to see you man. Thanks for the link and tips. I have plenty of time to pick some up before next harvest. Since you posted that I remember reading about those Boveda packs... The humidity beads would be fine as well. Thanks again guys. Got some lettuce in there now. We'll see how that does in a pinch.

Hey Buds! After 4 hours with the lettuce in the jars with the nuggs, they not only have become a perfect amount of moist they have also fattened up! Can't thank you guys enough for the tip! Totally turned the buds around!!! :D Amazing! I was a bit bummed about them being so brittle but it's like night & day now!! So between 6 - 8 hours I should remove the lettuce right? Don't let it get too moist... I know to be careful of mold... I'm very impressed *knocks on wood* with the lettuce tip! Took the water right from the little leaves! +rep if I'm allowed!

Yes sir, now if they're not too moist remove the lettuce and let the jar settle for ~5-10 minutes, then seal it up for 12-18 hours (the majority of the moisture needs to set with the buds for a bit and get deeper in.. the majority of the moisture is on the surface right now) then burp it again. You're kind of reverse curing, instead of drying from the inside out, you want the inside to pull moisture in from the surface of the buds. When you burp it this time, burp it a little longer to let some of the moisture out and let it stay open a little longer. The point is to slightly over moisturize, let it settle in the buds, then cure normally.. so your burps will be far apart after the first two removing the initial moisture. Just pay attention to aroma when you burp and go off of that watch for any moldy type smell!
