NEW ISSUE -- BUDS DRY AND BRITTLE

Hey Sniper! They were just a few days over 10 weeks.

Hey JEMman! I appreciate your kind words bro! Yes we've been holding off pretty good! It's been tempting but trying to do it right. I do have one problem though and maybe you and they AFN crowd can help me figure out what I did wrong...

The nuggs are all dry and almost brittle. They have been really since before I chopped them and I haven't said anything because I was hoping the jars would bring them some moisture but it hasn't. What did I do wrong? Why are all my buds/colas dry as hell? Did I harvest too late? Did I not water often enough during the last few weeks? They WERE all sticky and moist and then the last week or more they dried up. Is there something I can do to moisten them up or do I just have to chalk it up to inexperience and just be more attentive with this next crop? Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? Harvesting has always been terrible for me. Then again I used to roll the most terrible joint you could see or smoke. Now I'm a master. So in spirit with Gen. Longstreet and those damn pulleys, I'm going to be a master harvester... Someday!!! :ama:

most indicas with dense buds are what i would call brittle. small calyxes basically snap off intact. don't know about your strain though... no personal experience with them.

U could add a leaf of lettuce or some carrot slices and your bud should pull the moisture out of it but others might have some other tricks

Hey WVR... yea i actually overdried my Purple Jem from last grow. It got super dry and closing it up in the jars didn't do anything. I forgot who gave me the advice, but i just clipped off a little nug from one of the plants that i still had going and it brought sum juice back into it. Also heard you can dampen up a q-tip and put it in the jar with to do so. Obviously you'll have to watch out pretty closely so that it doesn't get too moist. Thats when the mold problem might come around. Do you have a humidity guage inside the jar with the trees?

If you have no fan leaves, then the answer is lettuce. Use lettuce. It contains nothing but water, don't use anything else. People recommend all kinds of shit like bread, orange peels, potatoes (wtf!!!!) wet paper towel.. if you use anything that's not a fan leaf use lettuce, it's a fresh leaf. It's just water, it doesn't change the flavor / taste AT ALL. Best bet will always be a nice fat fan leaf off of a plant!! When the buds cure they pull the final bit of moisture from within their own stems, the next best bet is another stem. Sorry if I repeat myself several times in this post, but this is so important with curing!!

^^^ EVIL!!! PROPAGANDA I SAY!!!

Haha, my reason for a fan leaf or lettuce is because they're NATURAL or as close to as you can get. These other things have nutrient contents in them as well as things that we're not sure of the effect on THC as it cures, i.e: citric acid in orange peels and essential oils.. you think smoking citric acid won't be harsh or burning some fatty oil? no bueno man!! no bueno!!!

I've always used a small damp piece of paper bag. I kinda stick it to the side of the jar not touching any bud.

Thanks Sniper, JM, & WG...I will try some lettuce. But could any of you guys tell me what I did wrong? Did I chop it too late. If you all remember I was concerned about the first one I chopped a few pages back. I was drying up before I harvested. So, I should have harvested earlier then? Should I also have kept the leaves on when drying?

JEMman -- to answer your question no unfortunately I don't have a meter in there. Could I use one like you would put in a critter tank? Those little round things you stick to the side of the tank? I don't have the money right now to get a decent hygrometer (sorry if I spelled it wrong).
