Photoperiod Bud's Shed - First Test Grow

Update, I've been busy again ..

First off, I thought it was about time I conducted a proper water test, so armed with my new pH pen and some samples, I got testing ..

View attachment 689681

From left to right, De-Ionised water (labelled, neutral), de-humidifier water (blue cap), rain water (red cap) and tap water (glass). I calibrated the pen first, and used the laser thermometer to check that all the temps of the fluids were the same .. I left the samples in the room to stabilise for half a day so the results would be as accurate as possible.

And they were rather surprising.
Most of all was the de-humidifier water, that came in at pH 5.59 .. so that's only getting used as a pH-down agent, if at all!
The tap water was lower than the water-authority-published data, at pH 7.25 (they had it at 7.8), but still too alkaline.
The rain water looks like the one .. pH 6.27 .. kerching! And it's free. And I don't have to lug it up the garden to the shed either.

Now, downside, it does contain traces of carbonic acid (CO2 absorbed by the rain in the upper atmosphere) and whatever else the industrial age has chucked at it, and it's lacking in trace elements needed by the plants so I'll have to supply those myself. I'm using seaweed extract as a foliar spray and a root feed, along with cal-mag supplement at the moment, the soil should take care of the rest.

Seems to be working well so far, this is after the first week of flowering ..

Anyway, those are cooking nicely, so ...

... meanwhile back in the vegging chamber, the mainliners were looking like they were ready for phase 2:

So this is where we're at in the vegging chamber now ..

Oh, and before I forget, the last of the trim from last year's Super Skunk greenhouse grow reared another 6 grammes of oil, making a total of 14 grammes off one plant. Half an ounce of oil .. dudes, that's not bad, eh?

Right, a chinese take-out and a movie or 3, methinks.

:headbang:
oh look at you getting all sciencey all joking aside dude cant wait to see this shed in all its blooming glory think its going to be special :pass:

@Wile e Peyote ..

Thanks Mr Peyote, I even got my old clipboard out for this ..!
Just wanted to get a measure of things ... wasn't 100% sure what I was giving them, so I decided to find out for myself.

I think I might have curious neighbours now tho' ..
I thought, at 6 o'clock in the morning, I'd be safe to get to the shed unseen.
Pitch black, no-one around .. that's my 'lights-on' time in the shed, so I wanted to get some overnight temp and RH readings, being the enthusiastic anally-retentive insomniac I am.

So I was very surprised, on exiting the garden gate at 6:15 am to find my neighbour had decided to painfully execute her New Year's Resolution in full jogging attire .. finding me dressed in pyjamas, dressing gown, wellies, bobble hat, head-torch and overcoat carrying 4 empty tonic bottles and a programmable timer. Explain that one..!

lmao that's funny

Get a plausible alibi. I grow bonsai for example. Not as an alibi but the point still stands :p

What could one do on a regular basis in a shed?! Take care of a terrarium or aviarium? Nah they'd want to see that. Build stuff or whatnot? With such regularity? Oh you have an etsy shop, what do you make and where's the link?
But Bonsai.. once you explain to someone over the fence why you cut them the way you do they've had enough and don't wanna see or hear anything more.

@Druid .. if you saw her jogging outfit, I'm not sure who of the two of us had the most explaining to do ..!! :crying:

I've re-adjusted my timers now .. I've gone for the 7-30 to 8 o'clock slot, just before the fuckers go to work and just after Oprah's got home from her jog, hopefully.

:vibe:

Edit: Goddit! Best form of defence is attack. I'll meet her at the gate tomorrow dressed in black leather thong and choker, nipple clamps, whip, full make-up and stilettos .. invite her into my bdsm-shed for some perverted action ... if she says 'yes' I'm fucked..!!

'Stumpy' gets it today ..

Down 'the barrel' ..

Happy bunny ..

That's Phase 2 completed then ..

Phase-2-complete.jpg

Time to play with some gadgets.
I bought an indoor/outdoor thermometer, got pissed off not being able to take temps inside the growroom when lights were off .. this one came with a 2 metre cable for the sensor, so I got my drill out (again) ..

Thermo-test---outside.jpg

And just to double-check, I hung a max/min job right next to the sensor .. trust no-one!

Thermo-test---inside.jpg

0.1 degree C difference. Not quite accurate enough for me, but fuck it, it'll have to do..! lol

Ever snapped a branch 'supercropping'? .. hollow stem? don't know your own strength? .. the accepted advice is 'tape it up' ..

The-tape-method.jpg

I even used bog-roll (super-soft!) to cushion the procedure.
However, you wouldn't use 'gaffer-tape'to fix a broken leg, would you?

How about a 'splint'? .. blunt the ends off a cocktail-stick with scissors and attach some 'twisty's' like so ..

Broken-plant-splint.jpg

Much easier to attach to the branch than fucking duct tape, and much easier to get off too ..

Attached-splint.jpg

Bonus, you can see the wound heal.

Y'know when you get that feeling that something isn't right? ...

My plants were looking a bit droopy, but the soil was just moist and not soaking, pH and everything fine, but seemed to be drinking a bit more than usual.
Couldn't figure it out, so I chose to stay down in the shed until 'lights out' ...
... which they didn't..! Timer wasn't turning them off. Shit.

Now, I'm not sure how long the timer had been broken, could be anything between one and four nights, so I'm now concerned about the effect on the plants.
Today would be day 11 of flowering (since switching to 12/12) ...

Should I be worried? :frowny:
