Joe,
Completely different animal when it comes to tabacco vs smoke. All of the research coming out of Israel right now states that the shelf life point is 12 months for most cannabiniods and they peak at 3 to 4 months but this varies with strains. I personally keep my at the most for 6 months but this varies based on how my grows go so if I am running low and I need to medicate :smoke:

You have a link to this Israeli research? I'm rather curious... thanks!

I've made an order for one like this but it has not arrived yet so i'm going conventional for now. Surprised i hadn't stumbled on till now.

I personally use hygrometers in each one of my jars so that I can keep an eye on the humidity as well.

DubV - this must be an expensive practice.. How many do you own?

I know tobacco can be aged and preserved for many years, in the proper environment. I have smoked many cigars with 10+year old, aged tobaccos (I know, wash my hands :D). Expensive humidors are at least lined with Spanish Cedar and maintain an RH of around 65%. Cigars have been aged in some of these humidors for over 20 years... and, they do improve with age. I'm not sure what the life span of cannabinoids is, but the buds could be kept perfect for a long time, if you were willing to go to enough trouble. :peace:

Hey man that's some great information  Thanks i'm going to look at these cigar humidors, might have to get one..

Like I said, I wasn't sure about the cannabinoids side of it. The thing about them peaking at 3 - 4 months would most definitely match my personal experience. About 9 - 12 months is as long as I've stored any, which was years ago, before the use of jars was a common practice (yes, they had invented jars, we just weren't using them yet :D ). I kept it vacuum packed and it never seemed to lose any of it's efficacy in that time. :peace:

what does isreal know about weed? I never seen a strain from there. j/k I do know it takes as long to properly cure weed as it does to grow it. I know guys who take even longer and it just get better with age. I have read about a 10 year cure going on another site that I though was interesting.

Try it is all I can say. I have lots of stuff a year old that tastes better than when it fresh and is still just as powerful if not more. I only help a few sick people and dont sell so I end up with lots of small amounts of older stuff that I have a box for as I just keep growing new strains all the time. I think it comes down to storage but you keep it vacum packed at 60% RHA out of the light and I think it will be fine for years. I do know guys who freeze it and havent noticed any ill effects as well.

Now there is science and tests and there is smoking and tests and those 2 things could vary quite a bit obviously but I do know I have some over a year that is better now than then

I've stored Foodsaver sealed canning jars in a Havana Footlocker for at least 24 months without noticable loss in taste, aroma or potency. Buds didnt have a perfect moisture balance, but were by no means "dried out". They make those MMJ Boveda packs now that would be the perfect addition to this storage method.

One could easily fit 2+ lbs in a footlocker humidor. The one pictured above sells for around $140-160 on a very popular auction site.

I should also mention that I would fill the jars with as much herb as possible, without damaging the buds. The idea is to leave as little air as possible, then vac seal.

I'd like to stash the "special strains", forget about them, then rediscover them many months later. Once I nearly burned a strain extinct, I'd then toss the remnants into one of my "all star jars". These jars were just a motley crue of headie buds, and were the last to be enjoyed.

I keep all my weed, in my humidors, with my cigars.
It does make my cigars have an unusual taste, but it makes me enjoy my cigars more.

wow! nice to see there is an interest!! so the thing is about humidity right?
i guess i should stay for now with an airtight box with some sponge+water in and make sure humidity its about 60%?
after we store the weed, there is a problem if we open the box lets say 2-3 times a month to take some?
