hello all!! i was wandering whats the best way to store buds for a long time??? and whats the longer time u can store a bud, without lose to much potency??? thanks!!

In my experience of over 25 years, an airtight glass jar kept in a dark area is perfect for up to a year. However, you will start to lose potency around 10 months to a year as long as the humidity in the jar doesnt drop below 60%. If the humidity drops below 60% they will dry out to much and crumble on contact plus lose potency quicker if the humidity is to low. I personally use hygrometers in each one of my jars so that I can keep an eye on the humidity as well.

i agree, glass jars are best. i have seen oven roasting turkey bags also used. as far as hygrometers, i use only 1 per harvest, no matter how many jars. pack them all relatively equal, they will be very, very close to the same in all jars(bags). oven bags are cheap as heck, and easy to find too. they sell little nydration packs at the local tobacco shops for 99 cents a piece, which supposedly will keep em like a small humidor. hope it helps ya.

Is there any reliable way to store longer than those 10 months by freezing or something or is it a lost cause?

i can't keep smoke around that long, i got a bad habit! ...kinda like "how many licks to the center of a tootsie pop" LOL!!!

The only way I have found with some sucess is vacuum sealing. However you have to make sure they are at the right hunidity for long term storage between 60-64% and stable at that level. The hygormeter that I use is a western caliber III. They can be picked up at any cigar shop for around $10 a piece or just order them in bulk online and they can be had cheaper.

I know tobacco can be aged and preserved for many years, in the proper environment. I have smoked many cigars with 10+year old, aged tobaccos (I know, wash my hands :D). Expensive humidors are at least lined with Spanish Cedar and maintain an RH of around 65%. Cigars have been aged in some of these humidors for over 20 years... and, they do improve with age. I'm not sure what the life span of cannabinoids is, but the buds could be kept perfect for a long time, if you were willing to go to enough trouble. :peace:

Joe,
Completely different animal when it comes to tabacco vs smoke. All of the research coming out of Israel right now states that the shelf life point is 12 months for most cannabiniods and they peak at 3 to 4 months but this varies with strains. I personally keep my at the most for 6 months but this varies based on how my grows go so if I am running low and I need to medicate :smoke:
