I think the 3 per pot method will be good at the f3 generation for strong auto plants.
I will give them a try till i restart breeding in the next year.
I got a question to you.
i own some pure landraces, i want to hold them alive. How much plants do think i have to pollinate.
i own:
Morocco rif mountain indica
SouthAfrican sativa
Nigeria sativa
cu tobe
well technically if your trying to maintain the population without causing a bottleneck in the genetics youd need to pollinate thousands of plants but since almost no one has that luxury I would say at least 6 females to 1-6 males focusing on the phenos that acclimate well to your area and garden style would probably give you more progress then trying to do a massive maintenance project.
anything under 100 plants at a time and you have to really focus on what matters since a good number of landrace plants just dont grow very well indoors
try searching for some of DJ shorts early breeding work like when he was developing blueberry, I think it would provide a lot of insight into breeding killer landraces indoors.
I got question i always read that autof are made by crossing fotoP with ruderalis.. I never read that both parents were AutoF.. Why?
as has been mentioned, all autos carry the rudi genes, thats what makes them auto. I believe its because when the first autos were being made (crossing photo psychoactive strains with ditch weed rudis) like lowryder#1 they were pretty weak and the psychoactive qualities had been diluted in the quest for the autoflowering trait so when they took the lowryder and crossed it back to a photo, bred it out again and it produced a far superior flower then its predecessor breeders figured crossing to photos was an easy way to improve lines than linebreeding and outcrossing to other autos.... so if you have a low THC line and outcross to a high THC photo, then bring it back to auto, chances are youll end up with a more potent line.
There is also the fact that since autos are relatively new, there arent many varieties worth crossing to, especially since most auto breeders stop at the F3 or F4 to maximize profits. thats changing quickly tho and as others have mentioned there are lots of auto to auto crosses these days and some really primo lines to choose from.
