Indoor Blueberry Skunk Auto

I harvested my Runtz - got close to 1 kg of wet trimmed buds, but lost about 200 grams to mold (have kept these buds in a separate area). I am pleasantly surprised that I managed to get such a nice yield - really do think autopots made a huge difference.

I have the buds in multiple brown paper bags right now, but my humidity is extremely high, around 80%, so need to figure out how to reduce it.

Is there any way to save the buds with mold?

PS: will post pictures of the harvest soon :)
I was in the same boat as you lately with mold. There is no real way of saving them. You can never be completely sure that the mold is gone. I could sit here and give you suggestions/ideas but in reality they will cause you more stress. Moldy weed isn’t worth the hassle honestly brother. I lost like 6oz to mold lately, sucked ass. Since then I just got an even bigger fan in and worked on my environment a bit. The bag humidity will always be sky high because you’ve placed wet buds in them. What I suggest is that you hang your brown bags okay? And try to put them in an environment around 40-50% humidity (outside the bags). The bag environment humidity doesn’t matter from hat I’ve learned. I’ve used bags with almost all my grows so I have some experience with them. With around 40-50% humidity you are looking at around 6 days to dry them, the denser buds will take a bit longer. Break the bigger buds down also. You can dry them as is but you definitely can risk mold in the bags with them. But breaking them down lessens the chances of mold and an even drt

If it were me id take some of the foliage off those branches/stems before bagging it but @MrAutoGrower is right that bag RH will be high a bit. Could leave them out of the bag a few hours to see if that helps reduce RH at all. Great harvest! Mold sucks!
I never actually had a look at the buds for his bags. I recommend giving them a real good trim. Trim them as if you were trimming them dry / finished product. Your rh will drop in the bag a little bit, and they will dry evenly. I’ve tried with more leafs and without. Without was best for me. I’ve done 3-4 grows and dried them in brown bags. So most of my experience comes from myself via testing. Not too much great info on the bag drying method. People keep it too simple, but like everything there is an art to it. It’s about learning to dial it in.

For me I always like to keep my bags hanging on lines inside a cardboard box. This acts is a “dry tent” to me. Simply because I can control the box environment quite easily with a portable dehumidifier and I also run a small fan on the other end of the box just to blow the bags around a little and blow the more humid air out the other end. I like to keep it in range of 40-50%. Doing this has greatly improved my terps.

Don’t be alarmed when you think there is no smell or very little smell after a few days. I always shit myself when it happened. After a proper cure the smell is insane and it will smell different from what it smelled like whilst alive/in the pot. Much better in most cases!

Get yourself some grove bags too. Those things changed my game. No need for annoying burping jars and so on.

With 40% humidity you can essentially count 4 days dry, then add an extra day on (5 days) and it’s usually dry enough.

Once you feel they are dry, do not skip the following step. I genuinely found this step the most important to me... put all the buds into a bigger brown paper bag and sleeve another brown paper bag over it. Leave it be for a full day, and take the sleeved bag off. This process is called sweating. It sweats out inner moisture which will then keep your stash even drier, rid the chances of mold during curing phase, and makes curing a WHOLE lot easier.

I might post an indetailed thread on it at some point. The drying and curing phase is the most important of all in my opinion. It’s something I’ve fucked up a few times and regretted, so it was real important for me to learn these steps like it will be for everyone else

Thanks much for the detailed input - really appreciate it! Yes, I have them in brown paper bags that are hung from hangers with pegs to hold them to the hanger. I have them hanging inside a wardrobe cabinet - will be getting a dehumidifier in a couple of days, so that should help drop the humidity (by how much I am not sure, so will have to test and see). I am sitting at 80% RH and 77F right now.

Btw, I took out all the stems and trimmed down the buds to small manageable pieces - will post a picture tomorrow. I have removed most of the sugar leaves and have them in a separate brown bag. How do I know when the buds are dry enough? I don't have any stems left, so can't test by breaking them either...

And yes, I got myself a few grove bags, so will use them for curing. Everyday you learn something new - double bagging the buds at the end is new to me, will give it a shot at the end.

This is my large harvest, so in uncharted territory! I hate losing close to 200 grams to mold, especially buds that were nice, ripe and super dense, but I hear you that it's not worth taking the risk that could lead to other health issues later. I should still be able to get a decent harvest, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Update:

Runtz:
The buds went through the drying process and I have them in a grove bag being cured right now. Post drying weight is 200 grams (lost 75% to water evaporation). Now comes the longish wait for curing them. Grove bag is still at 68% rh, so I am planning to burp the bag every day until it gets down to 62%.

Blueberry Skunk:
She is still growing, but many of the buds are ready for harvest, so I might just end up harvesting her soon.

I wouldn’t bother burping it bro. It’s easier just to add the lot of it into a big brown paper bag and sleeve another bag over it. It can mold at that kinda humidity.. sweat them using the technique I just mentioned for one day then fire them into the grove bag again.

I actually just popped strawberry nuggets into a 4oz grove bag last night. Humidity was at 56% a little too dry. Then it eventually reached 62% And I was happy with that. I just checked them and they were at 70% this morning! That moisture builds up fast because not all buds will Be dried evenly. Therefore those buds that are more moist will eventually make the rest of them moist and moisture will build up. I never sweated mine this time around because I overdried. Now I’ve had to sweat them, so I will always advise anyone to never skip this step. It’s real important in my eyes

Understood - thanks for reminding me to sweat it out.. will do that now and then move it back to the grove bag.

@MrAutoGrower so, I double bagged brown paper bags and let the buds sit in there for 36 hours and moved them back to a grove bag, but the bizarre thing is that rh is now at 72% inside the bag, while it was 68% earlier - any idea why rh would go up after having it sweat out?

Double bagged? Did you slide one bag over another? That’s how it should be done. What happens is that when the buds seem dry, there is inner moisture inside that will need sweated out. So the humidity may go up, especially if there is plenty of buds in there. It could also be affected by the air in your home and so on. Send pic of how it looks atm if u can and I can help from there a lil better

When you say slide, you mean create 2 layers of bags, right? I slid the bag with the buds into another brown paper bag. It's been 24 hours after I moved it to the grove bag and the rh is still at 72%, so I just put in my tiny passive dehumidifer into the grove bag itself so that it can suck out some of the moisture - is this ok?

I will take a picture in a few hours and post it here.
