I need to get a idea of how many plants I can put in my area. I don't want to start too many and end up with them choking each other for light.
My space is 6ft(L)x2.5ft(W)x6ft(H). Strains I have are Northern Lights, Pineapple Glue, Zkittles, Gelat OG, Northern Cheese Haze and Gorilla Blue.

I have both 3g or 5g smart pots. So I can use either.

I took some pics using 5g buckets to get a idea of spacing. The 5g smart pots are about the same diameter.

I know that size is really strain specific, but how many plants should I try for my first run?

I'd go with 3gal, you could get 7 in there as laid out with the 5's. I think 5gal is overkill anyway

Its really a matter of personal preference, your going to get about the same yield per sq ft. Do you want 2-3 big plants or 5-6 smaller plants?

I would say a safe bet would be to grow 6. Staggered for sure, one bottom left, then top, bottom etc. Give them some room to breath. It will depend how much training you do however! :)

I vote 4 or 5 plants. See how things progress before adding more plants for the next run.

I guess I should have asked, based on the strains you described, I assume these are photoperiod plants. If you put them in 5 gal pots and veg for two months you might only want 2 plants. If you veg for 10 days you could SOG 12 plants in there.

If this helps. This is a 2x4 tent 5 foot tall. 5 plants in 3 gallon smart pots. One in a 2 gallon nursery. Plants are 64 days old, 2 at 59 days old, one at 47 days old and i cant remember exactly the younger 2. I think around day 30 and 25. Photo was takeb about hour ago. All autos.

No these are autos. Are photoperiods really that much larger?

It still depends on strain. The grower ability and how big you veg it for for photoperiod size. Saying photoperiods are larger thsn autos is very vague. Hope this helps
