New Grower Begginer help

Hi chris, I am new to AFN as well but I have been reading a lot of good information provided by these guys. If i were you I would take muddy's suggestion and place it in the window sill and rotate it often so that it will grow straight up. If the temp in the window sill is way too high for a seedling then I recommend picking up a 42w CFL bulb. Use the CFL bulb in a regular lighting fixture (such as a lamp) and put the seedling within 3-5 in of the light. I would also keep a fan blowing lightly on the seedling to remove excess heat and also to help build up a little stem strength. Once you see the second or third set of true leaves (the leaves with serrated edges) you can begin a process know as "hardening off" your seedling. This is a simple process in which you start sitting your seedling outside for a short amount of time and then bring them back inside. You progressively let your seedling spend a little more time outside each day to get them accustom to the more harsh environment. Trust me, I have had much more success with hardening off seedlings compared to just throwing them out in the sun.

Another good tip is if you are trying any new type of growing procedure, first try it on a random bagseed. That way you cut your losses when it comes to good seed. Hope this helps you a little. Good luck.

Those are the seed leaves and they always die off. Not a problem.

hi everybody,

my plant is growing very slow. I'm in 26th day. I notice some white stains on some leafs. It looks like this:

Any ideas of what that might be?

Hard to tell from the picture. Have you noticed any insects around the plant or have you splashed any water on it?

As to the slow growth, what, if anything, are you feeding it? Are you still keeping it indoors or have you moved it outside?

thanks for the reply Muddy,

no insects near the plant and no water on it.

I'm not feeding it anything at all. I keep it indoors all the time (outside the temp is about 35 C), under a 45W CLF bulb. I started with common lights (not CLF) for the first 2 weeks (very wrong).

I think I'll wait few more days and see what happens.

It could be 1 of 3 things. If the spots dont rub off Its probably not salt build up from water getting on your leaves, might be an insect even if you cant spot them they might be there, last of all might be a defiecincy. There could be serveral reasons why you have a defienceny and this is the hard part bc if you have then another one might deveolp then its hard to pinpoint what you need. Since your not feeding it anything it might be needing something nutrient wise. This could be because the soil doesnt have enough or you have some sort of lock out. No real way to tell unless you have a reliable ph meter. Plants cant take up food in soil if its ph level is to high or too low the perfect balance is about 6.3- 6.8. If you have a meter and can verify you ph then if its too low flush with high ph water too high flush with low ph water. Natural ph up is baking powder, ph down is vinegar. I am assuming you have no access to a hydro store so try to pick up some orchid food from lowes, walmart, homedepot something where the N-P-K ration has more of the p and k if you can get stuff from a hydro store do some forum searching and you can see alot of info on just about every name brand nute products there is. Hope this helps good luck.

Hello again,

I bought fertilizer from the store. It's N-P-K 5-1-10. It's soluble. What's the idea? Should I put it in the water every time I water the plant?

I noticed that a leaf turns yellow on the tip. My guess is because It's very close to the light. Am I right? or it's something else?

Please help,

thanks in advance

More pics would be very helpful. CFLs should not burn a leaf unless it's touching the bulb - I routinely keep mine an inch away from the plants. Can you post more info on the fertilizer you bought? I've never used a fertilizer on cannabis that is that low in phosphorous.
