I'm using the smartpot autopot system and have it filled with 50/50 coco perlite with a layer of hydroton around an air dome at the bottom of the pot. It's been about a week since they've been in the autopots and I noticed today that the top was dried out. Not sure how far down it was dry though. I also just turned on the air dome since the sheet that came with the system said to wait a while to turn it on. The float valve seems to be working and the tray is full. My lights are about 20 inches away and the temps in there are about 73-78, humidity around 60-65%

Hi SallysFields,
It is normal for Autopots to dry out on the top as they are watered from the bottom. I am on my 3rd grow using the plastic pots and that is the way they work for me. Grows are good so I don't worry.
Using smartpots may add to it as they breath better then the plastic pots.
I would say watch your plants and if they appear underwatered or stressed then be concerned.
gl with your growing.
