I think this is the right place just to mention a few words about how I grow because I want to keep this grow updated now I know how.
Fascinated as I am by cannabis (and love growing it) I am also appallingly lazy and due to time constraints cannot spend anywhere near as much time in my shed as I'd like to, incidently as far as I'm concerned a shed is vital to a good and happy marriage, it is my retreat from the hustle and bustle of family life, so I keep it low tech, low key and low maintenance.
Sprouted fem seeds go straight into 10 litre flexi pots and stay there until finished, I use flexi pots because it allows me to cram more into my grow room.
Sprouted regulars go into bottomless 1 litre pots for sexing although I'm going to amend this to something called a tom pot, for those who don't know this is basically a tall pot, at the garden centres (at least in the UK) they're the pots that climbers come in, I'm doing this because I've found the seedlings grow so fast and throw out so much root that they're sprouting out of the bottom of the pot like a badly trimmed snatch before they've sexed, so the tom pots will give the roots more room.
The soil is an excellent multi purpose compost, that contains a wetting agent, in case the medium dries out too much, a good balance of nutes (that lasts about six weeks) and doesn't burn seedlings, I've used the brand for years for all my other plants and it is consistently excellent ( it's supposed to be ph balanced but I have found it to be a tad alkaline although this hasn't caused me any problems yet).
I like this approach because it allows me to supplement feeding but I know that they're getting some if I forget, plus the fact that by the time I harvest I know the nutes will be exhausted which is better than slow release which can hang around too long.
I use baby bio, seaweed extract and tomato food and literally folks that is it!
I hope this might be of use to newbies and those with little gardening experience because of its simplicity, don't expect the great yields that some of the more experienced and experimental growers on this forum get but that will come with time and experience until then the idea is to get some smokeable weed, right?
I'm fortunate in coming from a horticultural background (my folks ran there own nursery business and I've got a degree in commercial horticultural and 10 years experience in various fields (ha, ha) and abroad as well as the UK) and I sometimes forget that raising plants comes as second nature but for those that would like to grow their own but have never gardened it must be a daunting and bewildering world to step into.
So have no fear!
Cannabis on the whole is a forgiving plant, although auto seedlings do require a bit more care and attention with regards watering and feeding but softly, softly catchee monkey and you'll soon be grinning from ear to ear.
Hope this is useful,
Peas
