Are opiate pain meds worth it?

I have been on Oxycodone for going on 8 years now. I take the 20mg Instant release version called Roxicodone. 4 a day that totals out to 80mg. I am in a great deal of pain because of a kidney condition, the main problem with opiates are -(1)-Tolerance- even if you do not abuse your medication tolerance will occur eventually I started noticing it around year 4 that the dose I was on started not working as well, that being what it is I refuse to go any higher with my dosage because of #2. (2)-Physical Dependence/Addiction- In the 8 years I have been on this medication I have never abused the medication, I take it at the same time EVERYDAY if for some reason I miss a dose I deal with the hell that is about to ensue and find a way to make it to my next dose. Physical Dependence happens with opiates NO MATTER WHAT. You can't avoid this, to me your body being physically reliant on something and Mental Addiction are totally separated in the fact of if something were to happen and I could not get my medication, I would not let my mind take control of my actions.. I would endure the hell of withdrawal until it was over... and trust me it is hell. (3)-Withdrawal-Once you decide to stop taking the medication even if you decide to ween down to next of nothing you WILL GET SICK, it is not really the amount you are taking rather than the amount of time you have been on the medication. So just be prepared for hell. PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE ANY OPIATES they defiantly can be used for good, they help me live my life but on the other hand that is why I started smoking Cannabis again is to prepare myself to get off Opiates and try to rely on Cannabis for my pain relief. Anyways I hope this helps. Have a mellow day guys and much luv.

Aurora...I have degenerative nerve damage..I Should be on stupid high dose pain-killers..I made the switch to cannabis and only have to resort to prescription pain meds occasionally.

I Know it Can be done...and I Wish you Good Luck with it...

Same situations all over the world I guess!! I was on Percocet, Oxycotin and a slew of other high potency damaging painkillers and muscle relaxers for my upper neck spinal injury. Like mossy I also have degenerating discs and nerves. For 8 years I was on those meds constantly until my family doctor closed his practice and them I was left hanging with no access to medication. SO after 8 years of being on highly addictive meds I had to wean myself off the meds and supplement with heavy amounts of canna. Fortunately a strong willpower allowed me to get off the opiates without too much grief.
Good luck to all who is at the mercy of the medical systems answer to pain! Screw these synthetic damaging medications.

You should consider growing high cbd strains of cannabis. They work very well for pain without feeling "fucked up" royal queen seeds medical mass has about 11%cbd 10%thc . Euphoria has about 10%cbd 9%thc. Making edibles or doing an ethenol extraction and putting oil into gel caps works very well. But i personally think just butter and make some edibles works just as well. The 1:1 ratio of cbd to thc is from my experience great for chronic pain . (Get it? Chronic ^.^)

Hey I grew out a fairly high cbd strain this year (Barneys farm Auto Blue Mammoth which is 8-9% thc and 5-6% cdb) and I have found even smoking it the effect is quite positive(very few strains have had much of an effect at all) on my chronic pain from a spinal injury. Thanks to @StickMan I tried making a tincture out of some of it and wow has it been effective. Cheers to seeing the light and using natural non-addictive meds that I can produce myself!!

12 years clean an sober from all opiate including heroin and alcohol. It is a slippery slope PKs are but if the pain is too much then and only then take them but as soon as you can get off of them. GO for a strong Indica 100% indica strain for pain if you can. Let her amber right up smoke like a chimley and reduce the opiates. If you can get buy with acetaminophen/ibuprofen try your hardest. best of luck to you. As a whole in society we do not stretch enough look at a dog he has the common sense to stretch when they wake up, I have found maintaining a routine of limbering up it has helped me immensely. I have had severe back problems deteriorating discs . Keeping your weight down to minimal alleviates a lot of pain. I still race sleds snowmobiles every year and win still at 52 too
