Went out yesterday for a bag of sugar..the shops were quiet and we spotted some nice meat..so..it got done..and we only need to go to the market Saturday for fresh veg..:vibe:..we ended up with oxen steaks for xmas eve and a beef rib joint for xmas day.
I Think we spent a months budget on 4 days. :crying:..but still probably not as much as two xmas dinners at a restaurant.

What is Christmas like on the Islands...?

How much was your beef rib joint? I haven't seen anywhere to get one, I'm not even certain there's a real butcher here. That's something I miss from the UK, beef roasting joints whether it be silverside, topside or rib. I need to learn what they are in Spanish or if those cuts exist!

There have been things going on down in town every evening from over a week ago, going through to Tres Reyes. Live music and stuff. We haven't taken part in anything, it all just feels a bit distant - like Christmas is happening to other people this year and not us LOL. But then we don't go out to see a carol service or anything like that in the UK either. Of course there are decorations all over the place in the shops, there's a Santa in the big shopping centre near the southern resorts... It's rather odd really! It's not even particularly cold. It's rained a little but our forecast for Sunday is afternoon sunshine, and then sunny all day Monday and Tuesday. It still got to 22C yesterday afternoon.

I think I actually like not having the mad scramble to get it all done before Christmas Eve! We had a bit of a tradition of not knowing what meat we'd be cooking far in advance by seeing what we could get yellow-stickered on Christmas Eve, that was quite a giggle. We'd make sure we had potatoes, parsnips, carrots, horseradish and cranberry sauce in advance, because they were the things that you couldn't get on the 24th, and wing it with the meat. This year I think the kids have a friend cooking them the whole thing so all they have to do is heat it up. Daughter can cook a roast chicken dinner but any other meat and she struggles.

So I'm sure we'll find some nice treats when we go down into town in an hour or so, hubby has a few bits stashed away that he doesn't know about - things we'd get more often in the UK but were hard to source out here ;-) . I'm going to have precisely nothing to open on Christmas Day LOL.

16.95 euros a Kilo on the rib just got him to cut it fatter than a steak..and 17.95 euros a kilo on the buey/ox steak..you will have problems finding the usual sunday joint like they do in the UK..:headbang:..got ours from dialaprix..don't know if you have a one where you are.

No..I Think it is like that here too...:headbang:..because you are removed from the bombardment of Christmas adverts and decorated shops and xmas music..tv rubbish..combined with the weather..it does feel like xmas is happening to someone else..:coffee:..

We have no rain forecast until 29th dec..fingers crossed the land might get a chance to dry out a bit.
I lost a pair of flip flops to the land yesterday..:crying:..tried to sneak in to get the chickens some weeds and it sucked me flip flops off.
Took me 20 minutes to get the mud off me feet..the land goes like quick sand.

We got out of the habit of having xmas dinners when we had a gift shop in the UK..xmas was a selection of cold meats and greggsies stotties..:headbang:..then back down the shop to clear the devastation of xmas eve in a gift shop up..and the fastest flight to Lanzarote we could get on..:coffee:..loved NY in Lanzorote sitting in a beach restaurant.
