Day 12 (yesterday):

Took a few pictures yesterday. At this point they are sort of growing themselves... it's pretty weird... I don't quite understand why they aren't all fucked up and mangled... underfed or overwatered... somehow they just look OK... weird....

The only real malady I have seen so far was some wind burn on a couple leaves because the fan in her bucket was on super steroids. I installed a small plastic shield to prevent the fan from blowing DIRECTLY on the plant. She still shakes around a little bit, so she is getting good air.

Anyways, here they are at day 12:

Hey KSJ thanks for stopping by ;D

I just checked it for the first time and it's at 77F. Probably gets a couple higher in the afternoon...

Let me know if you think that's OK as I tried to model my setup after one of yours :D They seem OK for now, but not eating very much. I have set it at 250PPM at and it's up to 300 within a day or so. I have been adding back water and occasional PH down to keep it in range and lower the PPMs. I have been changing it out every 4 days or so.

Thanks again for stopping by, and all the help in the prep phase!!

Well, it just got me thinking (res. temps).

I think you already know that you are running hot ( abovo 69f)..,, risk of fungi.
Keep an eye (nose) out for smelly res..And if this is the avarage res temp you are running,
you might consider getting some Cannazym.
I´l hit you with a pm.

Big trouble in little Scrapyard

Sooooo bad news and worse news.

Bad news is that I accidentally left the water pump off for about 18 hours... Including the 4 hours dark.

One plant was more or less unfazed:
P1200018.jpg
One was badly injured with severe wilting to the point of total leaf loss:
P1200011.jpg
One was decimated:
P1200012.jpg

So I think they will all live, but the worse news is that the one that is doing OK is proving to already be slightly too large for her space...

It's frustrating her leaves are so huge in a little 2.5 quart pot.

I seriously need to consider if moving forward on this grow is feasible, or if I need to majorly rethink one component and start fresh.
Maybe I need to use smaller strains (like lowryder size), maybe even smaller pots...

I don't know yet... I just can't see them being able to flower in these buckets without so much leaf sweat that mold is inevitable.

I did a rez change tonight, and tomorrow the decimated one will have whichever leaves are the crispiest removed as otherwise they will fall into the pebbles and cause ph issues.

If they are healthy by the end of next week I might just flower them as I am at about day 20 now.

Thanks for stopping by guys, and ideas/comments are appreciated!

Just a quick update without pics as still super busy x_x

The 3 plants are doing good, I will probably flip the lights within a few days.

I have been watching PPM in the method I learned from KSJ. I take a PPM measurement almost everyday and document it. If it's going down I bring the PPM higher than it was at the last time I checked. If it's stable, I leave it alone. If it goes up, I only addback water until stability is achieved.

I check PH everyday unless the day before it was under 5.8. Canna nutes with my setup only stay in range for about 2 days... kind of dissapointing, but I can't really comment to a comparison as I haven't ever been as diligent about checking it.

After the plants size really started to scare me, I decided instead of abandoning the grow to try some serious defoliation/pruning. The 2 healthy plants were topped, and the bottom 3 sets of branches were removed. They now both have 4 "heads" and look like they are getting too tall to stay in veg. I simply cut off the parts of the fan leaves that were pressing into the bucket wall (only the ones that were really pressing), but did not remove any of them.

The decimated plant I left alone. She eventually regained health, and is now just a stunted version of the other 2. No defoliation on her was done as of yet. She still has all her lower branches, since they make up a good percentage of her overall plant mass.

I poured all my nutrients into cleaned and dried 8oz soda bottles and labeled them, because jesus christ these fucking nute companies ALL SKIMP ON THE CAP THREADING... leaky nutes so frustrating!!!!! Trying to do this rez change before she goes to sleep at 7, and am getting nutes all over myself :|

Each of the nutrient bottles I looked at from advanced, botanicare, GH, and Canna all have only one set of threading on the cap. Even my .5$ soda bottles have at least 3!!!! What is that??? And then as a sick joke, they all tell you to shake well

I wonder if your all experience with leaky nute bottles is the same... It would actually be a selling point for me to not have a leaky bottle. Huge yields are important, but so are some of my clothes... and I am not sure that red dye will come out :|

Thanks very much for stopping by, and good luck on your grows!

Yeah I hate cheapassed caps leaking!

That's great news that you got the plants to rebound.. Had you possibly considered a very minor defol to keep the plant a little smaller??

As for the leaky caps, they do indeed suck!! I will admit though, I must have about 20 bottles of different things, and out of them, only 2 of the GH caps have leaked; one because the bottle got beat up in shipping, and the other just sucks.. I used to shake them over the res, so that way if they leaked, it would just go in there.. It was negligible so I never factored it into the ppms.. None of my Botanicare bottles have leaked..

About canna nute bottles,, There are a wide range of different cabs that will fit those bottles.
The best ones i have found is from:
Wide Mouth NALGENE 60ml bottles I use those to refill with nutes and they come in many sizes...
I highly recommend those bottles :smoke:..
I hope your girls stay short.. can´t wait to see some pictures.
Stay green
