Never grown AFs but the beans are in the mail. Part of their appeal is the breeding aspect and I know basically nothing about that. Is there some good basic stuff online? Would this be a good process to incorporate non AF genetics into an AF?

-My thought is I get my AF beans.
-Sprout some and hopefully get a male.
-Use AF pollen to X a good Photo plant.
-This should give me seeds but none should express AF. (Is that right?)
-Take non AF seeds and sprout them and hopefully get male.
-Use non AF pollen to X back to AF (Does it matter if I use male or female at this point for the non AF?)
-Then take those seeds as my future breeding stock by starting them in 24hr light and only selecting the ones showing early AF.

Would that mostly stabilize the AF trait so one would be free to work with what ever traits the new plants exhibit or would there still be a hefty amount of photos popping up?

On further reading I seeing that it would not stabilize that quickly. Any online references that are helpful?

There are a few threads on it allready kicking around the site.

F1's not typically any autos.
F2's you should start seing higher % auto.
F3's should be closer to 50% or higher auto.
F4's should be fully auto.

You can use male pollen from an auto or use a female auto. Both will pass what you need. If you think about it you'd want to use a mom and dad from the photo line at some point. If you BX your auto line back to the photo line. You'll instill more % of the photo line into your auto. Until you have a complete auto line that is just like your photo line. Only auto.

Thanks Bailer, that is very clear as to what I should expect ratios-wise and good to know. Guess I'll keep reading till the beans get here. thanks!
