Looks like it will work thanks!!! So just pack it in a little tighter than usual, maybe I’ll add a little extra perlite to offset that.

well i wouldn't say tighter, it was more a warning that you need to make sure your pot is full up to the holes,, i place mine in a large tub and fill the outside first making sure they full then infill the middle of pot ,,extra perlite is ok.my soil; is a blend now of all sorts

Good distinction! Thanks I appreciate the insight!!!

I'm using rubber pots with loads of holes drilled into the bottom and half way up the sides, would that not do the same job as an airport?

been thinking about the same question. Although I haven't done it, so this is just guessing, I think that just having holes might not do the job. I think the roots may follow the side surface of the pot, and the dimples in the proper air pot direct any roots doing this out to the hole where the roots air trim. I'm not sure that air pruning would be as effective with simple holes.

I'll bet someone around here has tried it and will chime in - I'm subbed.

There's a vid I've seen where someone tried to duplicate an airpot and found it to be rather challenging. The holes/dimples are specific in their location. Simple and works.

I done it with 7 of mine and to be fair when the roots have mingled in with the soil after a few weeks I find alot of water goes out the sides an into the tray, so watering has to be done very very slow, but recently I let them sit for a bit in the water so they can drink it up now too, then dump the leftover
