Air filtration in tent vs outside tent?

I been checking out prefilters for the shop vac filters, I may try one of them on the end of the hose in the tent. Below is a picture of my filter right now, 6 weeks in and all this dust would be going through my fan, I have to shop around for some kind of prefilter.

That's a lot of grey on that filter. Mine have always been more brownish... Was it grey to start or are you near a charcoal grill?... Anyway, you can just throw that in the washing machine with no fabric softener and it'll come out much cleaner. And everything on top of the tent is fine but go with filter before fan so you're not overworking the fan to get the air out against resistance

Hi folks,
I'm presently running my first grow with a tent. I have my air system inside the tent, but have recently bought another light to increase my amount of plants from two to four.
I would like to move my air system outside the tent to free up the ceiling bar for this new light. My tent is a 4x4 and I'm using a 6" AC infinity air system.
Will the system do as good of a job if I move it to the outside?
I run mine outside of the tent with the charcoal filter outside. I use a automotive cloth filter for the pickup inside the tent. When it gets dusty you just wash it out. You can pickup a cheap one on ebay. You need a sleeve of galvinized pipe as well.

It was black just like the ends of the prefilter. I just showed it as an example of what I do not want going straight into my fan. Next year I hope to do a direct vent outside. I can buy a nice galvanized window vent for almost the same price as one filter.

Is it common for your auto filter to get clogged in 8 weeks? I guess these things really do filter dust.

I would imagine it would be a good idea to put a pre filter on your intake port so all that dust isn't passing over your plants on it's way to the exhaust......just a thought.

yes, I'm referring to my prefilter is clogged solid in 8 weeks. Thought it would at least last the entire grow. Am actually using a CAI filter on my intake.

Still a lil confused even with the pic......is that the beginning of the exhaust tubing or the end of the intake tubing?
