The soil plant is definitely out growing the DWC plant at this point. Probably because I still don't have any roots in the res. I wish there was something I could do. It's really baffling me lol.
I decided to raise the water level to about a half inch above the bottom of the pot. I think if there are any roots even close to the bottom of the pot they will get to feel the res. If they start growing I will lower the water level to below the pot again. I have a pretty good air pump and my res temp is 22c so hopefully this works out. The new ph meter I got has also allowed me to keep the ph spot on. I love that thing lol.
Hopefully this will kick start things. If not, I'm at a loss and will no doubt have to ask for more help from some pros. ;D
Hi Anisazi, I think you're right on with getting the DWC res level up in the netpot, temporarily. My first DWC run, I was hand watering the netpot for over a week- roots needed moisture... Then it hit me to raise the bucket level. Instant gratification. Just keep an eye for roots coming out, and lower the res again. Once those roots hit the res, she'll catch up to the soil girl Best to you.
Been through a lot since my last update. Where to start! Well firstly. I ended up performing surgery on my dwc plant. The roots weren't really growing out of the rockwool cube because it was too wet. I took a chance and cut off like 95% of the rockwool cube and lost a nice chunk of the stunted roots with it.
After I did that I waited about 5 days or so. I put a dome over it and misted it for a few of those days and after that I saw new roots poking out of the bottom of the net pot at 2 different places. I was obviously super excited. Well I had to go out of town on friday-monday and I just got back. SO MUCH NEW GROWTH I couldn't believe it. Plant like doubled in size in the 3 days I was gone.
Bad news is my ph drifted up to about 6.4 while i was gone and now I have some spots on mainly 1 lower leaf. I think I locked out cal with the high hydro ph. Got that taken care of so hopefully everything is okay. I have a bunch of little pure white roots in the res atm and I couldn't be happier. So glad taking that chance removing the rockwool cube paid off. I hate those things and I don't think I will be using them again. Need a good alternative for next grow. ;D
As for the soil lady. I topped her a while ago and I kinda did it wrong. The new growth was deformed and I didn't get 2 main branches. Once I realized my mistake I topped it again but correctly this time and once I got back from my trip It looks great. I have successfully topped my first plant. I plan on topping the dwc plant too. My original plan was to scrog the dwc but since my soil plant is going better I think I will just scrog that one and lst the other one.
I will make sure to post up some new pics tomorrow! it's lights off right now and I don't want to mess with them. You guys will be amazed at the new growth! Finally feels like everything is going great and they are doing so much better than my first grow. ;D
I topped the dwc plant today. Hopefully it goes well as I'd like to flip the lights to 12/12 in 2 weeks or less. the goal was to flip at 30 days but with the problems I've had with the dwc plant I figure it wouldn't hurt to let it go for at least an extra week to make up for lost time. I also need to get my screen attached to my pot asap. Bamboo sticks are taking forever to get here. Might have to use something else around the house instead. I'm not very creative though. It was a miracle I came up with the idea to make a scrog out of a picture frame and some yarn. ;D
Thanks for stopping by bandit! Hopefully you guys can tell me if my plants are looking as good as I think they are. I do notice some weird tip burn or something on the soil plant. Not sure what it is. It looks like nute burn to me but I don't know how thats possible as it's day 26 and it just appeared over the weekend and I hadn't fed the plant by then.
I actually did feed it for the first time last night though. Hope that wasn't a mistake. I figured since it was almost 30 days and it's not an autoflower it would be okay.
super excited at the progress my plants are making. Maybe my dream of 3 oz per plant is real.
Take a slow stroll around Home Depot. I'd be willing to bet you can find something cheap and easy until the bamboo arrives. They have stuff that looks like orange cargo netting that is used around construction sights, and it's pretty cheap.
Lowes sells a lot of training supplies including bamboo in their outdoor garden centers, mine is still open not sure if it's an area dependent thing. In my store they are near the pond/fountain pumps.
