My questions about starting & sucessfully growing with Coco indoors DTW .

To start will be using Canna Coco & nutes , NL or WW autos from Seedstocker . Believe I'll just try 2 plants for my first attempt . Germinate 3 so if 1 don't make it or is wrong sex I'll hopefully have 2 left . If all 3 make it there's room .

From all I've read it's vital to establish root system in Coco . Would I be better off starting in a 16oz cup or 1.5L Airpot in Coco ? When roots fill out transplant to 2gal Airpots . I'd imagine with autos I'd want them in final pots about 3 weeks old due to short veg period ? Is perelite needed ? Thoughts on layer of Hydroton on bottom of final pot ?

Cal Mag is needed but some has more N than I think is needed with the Canna A/B . I did pick up a jug of Calimagic which is same NPK as the Canna Agent 1-0-0 . Some I saw had as much as 4-0-0 .

Start light on the nutes . Seedling light feed of Canna Start , Rhizo . 3 or 4 sets of leaves probably time for bigger pot & auto feeding . IMHO best advice was learn to read your plants . Since I'll be running a small res with auto fed drip rings I plan to use the following in addition to the Canna lineup : Drip Clean , Hydroguard , Super Moist & Silica Blast .

Have also wondered if any additional Mykos , trace elements , B vitamins would be of help or a waste of money . DTW multi feeds with overflow constant flow of fresh nutes just might flush all that out before it can do its thing .

Got more light & venting than needed so I won't be fighting that . Have to pull 2 new circuits from the panel for tent & gear . Then setup , test run it all etc . Should prove to be a good chance to learn more . Any input or tips , I am all ears .

Looks like a pretty solid game plan there! You have done your homework for sure. I will say that transplanting is unnecessary, and just an extra step you don’t need. I would recommend just popping the seed directly into the final pot you wish to use. I always pre-soak my pots, then let it sit in the tent for 2-3 days to warm up/dry out before I plant. You don’t need to feed to runoff until the plants are around 3 weeks old, let them get their root system established. Usually I will feed every 4-5 days just to make sure the coco doesn’t dry up. Keep your feed ph around 5.7-5.9 and you should be set!

I think it's typically recommended to transplant auto's well before 3 weeks. They have a fast seeking tap root that you don't want to have bottom out. I do like to start in solo cups myself, but with CoCo I'm strait into the final pot now. It feels way harder getting a smooth transplant in COCO without it crumbling apart in mid transplant.

I'm doing my first ever grow in Coco/Perlite at the moment and I used just Canna Start and Canna Rhizotonic the first week or 10 days, then I started adding Canna A+B in small amounts and upping it as I was cutting down the Start and Rhizotonic.
I also soaked the seeds for 24 hours and then 24 hours in a paper towel (or until they pop) and put straight into final pot.. No transplant..
I would recommend picking a nutrient line/brand and sticking with that only instead of mixing brands.
These were seeds on the 6th of October

Except for the one in the wellie, I started that from seed on the 16th October, she is an Afghan and all the others are Northern Lights x Big Buds

All bagged coco is pre-buffered with calcium and magnesium.. So calmag is not "needed".. Like you said, read the plants.. I would not recommend using it until it's needed, if that ever happens. Be careful with adding it for no reason. You can quickly and easily cause a lock out like that.

hmmm are you sure about that ? I use "black gold just coir" and I can't find anywhere that says the buffer it. The run off comes around 700ppm not including the ppm from my tap. I assumed that was all salt because they didn't wash it properly. Washing COCO is the biggest pain in the ass ever and if I dont have to do it that would be wonderful.

Lol, let me rephrase that's.. 98% of bagged coco is buffered. Canna Coco, being one of them. I found on the black gold website that they "wash" their "just coco" bags to eliminate excess salts. I didn't find the word "buffered" anywhere though, but if it's not, the plant won't take up nutrients correctly and that will cause issues very early on. It's definitely something that needs to be considered before adding calmag from the start. In this case, the Canna brand is both washed, and buffered with calcium and magnesium creating a positive cec exchange from the start.

My experience with " black gold coco". I didn't buffer with calmag. Approximately 3 weeks after seedling popped i had calmag issues. The next grow I buffered the Black Gold with calmag and didn't have any deficiencies. Just saying for those who use the Black Gold Coco.
I now use a Lowe's Coco Sta-Green and couldn't find any information if it was buffered.
Once again after a first grow with Sta-green I had calmag problem. Next grow with it i buffered with calmag and no problems. Just my experience with these 2 Coco products.
