I wouldn't say soil is wasteful, it's a new growers best friend. I'd always recommend any new grower to start out with soil, to get a feel for growing and to learn how to read their plants. But, new growers that pays attention to detail and have the research and knowledge of hydro can have a great outcome.

I agree, I think everyones first grow should be in soil. It keeps your mind off of the system you are using so all of your attention and energy are focused on the plant only. IMHO this helps the grower get to know the plant on a more intimate level.. Im all for flood/drain DWC Drip Coco(my favorite) etc.. but you spend tons of time getting to know the system and miss out on a lot of suddelties the plants give off... this is my two cents and merely a recommendation for those seeking to get on an intimate level with your plants.
