thinking about doing a 5gal DWC

do you normally change water daily or top off with PH'd water

do you still only feed 1-2 times a week? or do you feed more often?

do you have to monitor PH daily?

thanks ..im really interested in DWC these few questions and i should be giving it a whirl soon

stylez rasta smokestyles rastaHey smokes .Welcome & good luck if you do give a try mate
Q1). For the 1st few weeks you wont need to top up as they wont drink/feed much ,but later on as the res empties you top off through the week or until you have added back the same amount as the res ... then do a res change / bucket swap & clean once a week (usually upping the feed ratios / EC by 0.2 ish)

Q2)depends on how big they are,how hungry ect . You cvan let the res half empty once they are drinking a lot before topping off with water or nutes ,depending on what the EC is.

Q3).Yes you need to check PH at least twice a day really (& EC at same time is good ) ,Keeping in the zone is most the important thing for healthy & fast growth .

Good luck & check out some DWC grows like Seymour buds ect ...thats where I learned a lot :peace:

Have you read any threads about dwc? I wouldn't change the water every day, that would be wasteful and get very costly for nutes. The water should be replaced as needed (depending on nutes used) with water with the nutes mixed in.. its just like regular hydro I believe. So you would add nutrients when you are replacing your water. Adding nutes to the bucket that is already running you run the risk of nute burn if you don't have a ppm meter. I would just give it a go and monitor everything as well as you can then back off when you get a feeling for how your system works. And remember that the bigger she gets the more water she will respirate so you will need to change/add water more frequently....

Im no expert just trying to help out... please correct me if im wrong...

Best wishes on your endeavor:smokebuds:.

ViracochaDWC beat me to it... id listen to him he's got DWC on the brain.

Wow great info! right now im soil with 5 gal smart pots. DWC seems easier for some reason though i haven't done it yet. Im sure i will have a few more questions as i approach growing a new way. Thanks ViracochaDWC for the quick reply

have you considered coco ? :smoke: did my first grow in coco... and i mean, if you want something easy..give it a try

but i get you bro, DWC looks so cool :D

:smokebuds:I wouldn't call it easy !. Its quite hands on in fact .You could not leave a full size plant unattended for more than 48hrs for example.Im in there 2/3 times a day checking PH (at least morn & night) & res changes once a week take a few hours of letting everything mix properly & getting the temps right ect .So there are a lot more user friendly systems out there but none will yield as well if done right (none go wrong faster if done wrong either though X's Evil Laugh x)stylez rasta smoke

Ya, DWC isn't for lazy stoners fosho. :D
But, if you wanna have complete control and micro manage your grow DWC is the way to go.

I went flood an drain. Soil just seems wasteful to me. Just me though. Everyone is right about being on top of it. I love being in my space often. For me I like knowing what's going on, in the medium with nutrients everything. Ive tended by buddies soil garden and just didnt like dealin with all the hassels. Plus I wanted to scrog.
Good luck and happy growing.
