A few breeding questions..

colloidal silver has seemed to worked on a lot of different grow journals. people make their own journals with colloidal silver generators, here's a link you can check out. Like b0b said, there's so much info out there.

good luck

sorry i mean no disrespect to Nelson (R.I.P) but his c.s. thread is a bad example of how to make c.s. and far from proper , maybe it worked for him somwhat , but i wouldnt expect it to of been reliable

check the seed feminization sub section under autoflower breeding and you will find lots of posts n threads about c.s and sts

peace

hope you dont think im brushing you to the side by saying download some plant biology/breeding books , it just sounds to me like you have some passion and more questions then the thread title would make it appear , im happy to sit here talking breeding with you , just pointing out that you would be very well off by dloading what i mentioned

peace

Hey, no worries! I know what you meant. I will definitely be picking up some books/articles specific to breeding to go along with all the other stuff.

Glad to see all these people so interested in autos. Everywhere else is full of people putting them down lol

With all that said, do you, or does anyone else for that matter, know if either Afghan Kush Ryder, Think Different, and/or Purple Kush (Buddah seeds) are stable true breeding seeds? Or if fem seeds created from them will be the same strain as their parents via selfing or pollinating a sibling.

Also, do you have any specific books you recommend looking at for cannabis specific breeding? I've been looking through some different sites already, jw if you have any favorites.

havent worked with any of those strains "yet" but im about too , unless the akr is from WOS , if so , mine didnt even auto , i wont buy or trust WOS ever again , since seen many bad reports on them in various forums , yes ive seen good reports as well , but that many bad plus my own experience with them says stay away

i dont advise selfing an actual plant itself , if photo sister clones is fine

try googling ,,,,,

marijuana botany

or

Marijuana Botany An Advanced Study

add in the word breeding if you like etc etc

peace

edit , also try the word cannabis if need be

Yea, I did mean AKR-WoS. Got one right now that was topped and stunted (underwatered seeing as it was the first time using a smart pot and the quick drying was more than expected / underfilled the pot due to not considering the soil settling when watered), but the buds are super hard on the plant and still putting out white pistils from various parts of the colas. Running more and will be crossing the best offspring (maybe more technically too as I learn haha).
Really annoyed the one that was making pollen sacs died before it could have pollinated one branch on this one. Would've saved so much time.

For a 3gal smart pot, it wasn't a great yield at all, but seeing as only a little bit of soil was actually used by the plant, it would prob grow to the same size if not bigger in a 1 gallon pot. Perfect for a Sog (maybe even topped for 4 but not lst'd).

Bob as old and crazy as he is hit a lot of stuff dead on.

I would suggest DJ Shorts book Cultivating Exceptional Cannabis: An Expert Breeder Shares His Secrets.

Its only 13 bucks right now on amazon. Most of the time used copies cost 35 or more!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0932551599/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This will give you some good ideas on what to do or what to read.

Breeding takes time. I think if you rush something to market it will look just like that, rushed.
The best dope only comes from people who are willing to invest the time AND money.

read read read and grow grow grow grow, in the best of both ways, friend.

lol yea, I can tell Bob knows what he's talking about.

Quality>Quantity and luckily with cannabis, if you can dial things in for good quality, you can prob get a nice quantity too with the right space

I think that there are a few approaches that you can use to maintain an inbred line without the loss of vigour that would normally be associated with inbreeding in an outcrossing species.

I suspect that many of the commercial strains are actually F1 crosses rather than inbred lines, and if so selfing would just produce the F2 generation.

Been reading the book you recommended Bob. Like it so far. It goes step by step and you definitely need that with genetics lol.

Hybrid vigor is such an interesting phenomenon. I've heard of it before but never got into detail about it until now.

Also, DP lists Think Different as a cross between their uncommercialized AK420 strain x Ruderalis. But it is listed as 60:20:20 Sativa:Indica:Ruderalis So it would most likely have been backcrossed to the Ak420 a couple times and then hopefully bred out at least to F3 before selling. Selling seeds between F3-F6 would make sense considering the few different phenos people mention with this strain. Anything past F7 should be pretty stable and consistent. Also, selfing the plants for each seed run for every successive generation would probably help eliminate much noticeable variation as well by the time F7 comes around.

I got the feeling that some of the collaborative breeding programmes at Dutch Passion had been to make F1 crosses between different auto lines that were less closely related. I don't recall which strains they were though. It would make sense from a commercial perspective because as well as adding vigour it would offer additional protection from amateurs trying to breed the strain themselves.
