So Long, Long Gone
Hey all, rookie questions incoming...
In the process of getting ready to grow, have everything except seeds which should be arriving this week or next. Northern Lights auto's from Phoenix Seeds.
First question:
I live in a basement suite in Canada, right now we're in the depths of winter and things are freezing cold and the humidity is low. In my suite it usually hovers around 18C-20C, but my 2x4 tent is sitting in a utility room where the temps inside the tent tend to hover around 16C (although I've seen them go as low as 14C) with the lights off. When the lights are running, the temps hang around a cozy 24C-27C and the humidity can hit around 50%-60%.
I'd rather not run a heater, since my utilities are paid as part of my flat-rate monthly rent to my landlord and I don't want my utility bills suddenly jumping and causing him to ask questions. My rental agreement doesn't specifically forbid cannabis growing and my landlord has never been a problem, but all the same I'm a private person and I'd rather he didn't know. From my calculations the setup I have running now shouldn't cause a jump of more than roughly $10 a month. But, running a heater would cause that cost to climb considerably more. Not to mention the added cost and hassle of purchasing and setting up some kind of heating.
I figured if I can run the lights 24/7, the temps should stay in a good range for the plants.
So, I was hoping to get some input from folks that have run 24 hour light cycles on their auto's. I've searched around and found people that say it's no problem at all, and others that say it shouldn't be done. I'd like to hear from people that have done it, and how they found it performed. Did it hurt the plants or yields, or did it end up fine?
Second Question:
Related to the first, if I run my ventilation fan 24/7 it can reduce the temps in the tent back down to around 18C and sucks nearly all the humidity out of the tent.
I was wondering if I could run my ventilation on a schedule. For argument's sake let's say I run the fan for 1 hour at a time, every 2 hours. Has anyone tried something like that and had it work? Or is it a fail waiting to happen? One issue could be, I imagine, a lack of fresh CO2 being cycled into the tent.
Apologies for the rookie questions, and thanks in advance for any knowledge the good folks here can share with me.
