Well let's very right inton it. I left my tents about 2 months ago tips and into a room. Well that room is carpeted and also upstairs making the environment hard to work with so I've been eye balling my basement. It's got a very nice nook with a French drain and some structure to it. The cubby in the very back looks promising for a seedling/clone area and a place to store ands mix nutrients. It's 2.5 feet by 6 feet. Not counting the cubby I have a 15foot by 6 foot area to turn into a blessing or disaster.
Funds are tight but I should be able to get it up and running. In currently doing a little panda film 12/12 area to see how it fares before I really get into things. This will be a slow build but hopefully a great learning curve for myself and anyone following.
Step one....CLEAN!!!!!! Don't this tonight using bleach water, than rinsing it all down with green cure to help eliminate molds. I'm running a fan and dehumidifier right now trying to dry things up. I'll most likely be up all night getting this area ready for blooming. Just 6x5 area for now to testy out while I get materials and a further design perfected. Attached is a very very rough sketch of the lighting plans when I do partition the area into bloom/veg rooms....
Left side will be bloom, partition wall then veg and autos on the right side.

How tall is it? Either way though with a dehumidifier and good airflow you should be fine. Typically basement areas like that get kind of cool but with even just the heat from your lights it should be enough heat to keep the plants happy. Also it tends to be harder to hear a carbon filter that's running all the way down in the basement.

My vote: blessing

Blessing in the open I say. YOu can knock out of the park with this DP

Thanks for the inspiration, she is drying up nice already. Unfortunately the floor to ceiling space is only 6 foot.....so I'm going to be training and running scrog I'm thinking....but im having trouble splitting up the room?
I like the original design of splitting up the nook....but it doesn't give me much work room. It's really packing it in there....
Should i make that nook my bloom area and maybe run 4x8 of the room right in the middle? I'd like to put down a sheet of insulation and some pond liner and kind of frame in the area the plants will sit in so i can shop vac out run off and keep things contained. A sheet of foam insulation and some pond liner would make a nice 4x8 box using 2x4 frame. No leaks.
I can veg in the rest of the basement since it doesn't need a schedule I'll just run veg 24/0 and recirculate all my basement air between the rooms.
For lighting i have a 1000w hps with xxl hood to spread light nice over a 4x4/4x5 area.
2 150w amare panels which cover a 2x4 perfect, or 3x3 depending on how i arrange them.
I have a 320w from the wall go grow led that nicely covers a 2x4. I have my mars 1200 which covers 3.5x3.5 or so and a old mars 600....

Do i need to seal everything in or can i keep it fairly as is....i imagine a beautifying sealed room but I'm just a renter and I'm on a low budget so I'm not trying to go too crazy. Was going to make sure no light leaks and that she locks up and let her rip lol

If you were a straight up auto grower it would be easier. I would stud off one area at the bottom end about 3 foot by full width and use it for storage/ nute mixing and drying curing area.
Then the rest would be a big frow room.

But with photos thrown in its a little more complex.
What size of area do you need for autos v photos pete

I'm undergoing a similar, albeit not as big project.. Unfortunately for me, I'm limited by how much wattage I can run because the house I am in is a bit out-dated and only has 100A service, and since it's not distributed well, I'm running wires from different parts of the house until I can get the electrician in to rewire part of the basement..

Have you done a thorough survey of temperature swings and humidity readings?? When I first planned my room, I had almost forgot that during the Summer, it becomes EXTREMELY humid down there. Not as big an issue in the Winter where I'm struggling to increase humidity!! I like the way you sectioned it off although I'm not entirely sure of the orientation.. Where I chose to build my room has zero windows or leaks and it will be surrounded by concrete on 3 sides, where I only have to worry about light-proofing the wall I just built.. Shouldn't be too bad, especially since not a lot of light gets into the basement as it is and we're not down there much, except for when the lights are on in the current grow.. If you're going to frame stuff in, you don't need to go with full 2x4's, or whichever the metric equivalent lumber is, as you could go a step down as the walls won't be "weight-bearing", and they are a bit cheaper than going with normal sized wood..

Only other thing I'd recommend down the road is some sort of decent fire suppression.. Other than that, I'd say it's definitely a blessing!!!!

Love the idea of using smaller retention walls and saving some money, thanks for the tip! And yeah I'm testing RH and temps over the next 48 hrs, highs and lows. I do have a inkbird controller to help stop major swings in temps. I've decided the nook is going to be a bloom area And the other part of the basement is going to be veg/autos.
@talkative I run both. They both have pros and cons. But I've ran 24/0 for a year and when you start running 2500w of lighting 24/0 it adds up. About 450$ a month, not including controlling my environment and paying for my actual electric bill. Plus when you have a few bad runs of autos because small genetics and constant variants in phenotypes that set you back it makes you think of a contingency plan. This isn't just my meds but it's also my job and only income to supply my patients. Yield as much as I hate to say it is a huge factor in my garden. And with a proper rotation of photoperiods I can harvest 3 half pound each plants every 30 days. 12 plants in groups of three all 30 days apart with 60 days veg. And that's only half my plant count currently. I'd need twice as many autos to meet that quota. Starting from seed every time you cant guarantee what your going to get..... Clones you can..... So I run both and fulfill my need to play around with autos and my love for growing while also making sure I meet my needs.
