Is that sufficient enough? I plan on running it 24/0 until the weather warms up a bit. It will be in a part of my garage that has heating, but the heating is pretty shitty hah.. I will have a air cooled tube connected to my carbon filter venting out of the tent. I will have 3-4 autos going at once... I'm worried heat will be an issue and I don't want a fire hazard because I work a regular 8 hour day.

Is 600 good enough for 4 plants? Also will heat be an issue if I do use a cooled hood sytem?

have you looked into led? or is the hps something you have already?

I was going to go with an LED grow for 1 or 2 plants but I decided to double it to 4 plants.. I want to keep the cost down so fiscally the HPS seemed like the best choice. Plus the garage gets to about 50-60F at night so I figured the HPS will provide the right amount of heat. My worry is fire risk.

i might be wrong hear. but i think you would have less fire risk with the led. but i could be entirely wrong. but i think as long as your wiring is good. area is clean. and monitoring temp when you can. should be all good. could always add an osculating fan for help on temp. but also more air you are moving to control temp is more humidity your losing as well. i had to add a humidifier to tent#2 already. cant keep it above 28%. so my adviceon fire prevention is quality wiring. and good surge protector power strips. and keep a clean area. dont have dangling strings and wires near fixture.

and we have 6 plants in a 4x4 under led. just a tad under 700 watts total. also have 5 lights. so plenty of mobility and coverage. click the link in my tag for tent [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG]

600w should be plenty for 4 plants. If you run a cool tube or other air cooled hood, heat shouldn't be an issue. Summer will be a different story, I'm sure. As for fire, most of that risk is due to the heat the bulbs generate and the gas in them. Cool tube is 1/4" thick pyrex, shouldn't be a concern so long as you handle the bulb properly.

I'm running 4 auto's under 400w HPS in a cool tube. Raises the temp a whole 7 degrees. This is using a cheap 4" fan pulling air through a filter and the tube and pushing it through another 6 feet of ducting. I could likely get it much cooler. If I run without cooling it raises 20 degrees.

That being said, I have 2 autocobs in there with the HPS now and 4 more to add in about a week or so when I pull the HPS for good.

400 watt HPS so a 600 will do you fine as long as the temps are stabilized

If you have the DIY spirit Cobs can be really affordable and devastatingly effective.

For turn key I wonder if a Ceramic Metal Halide 315 wouldn't be a more efficient solution than a 400 or 600W.

Rule of thumb is 50 watts/sq ft

So unless my math is wrong, 600 is spot on.

But heat will be an issue. I have 400 watts in a 4x2 tent, and I can't grow in the summer. You are going to want a lot of ventilation.
