Nothing wrong with your clarity of magnification here Afrikanner, looks like to much light saturation. Does it have dimmer switch? if it doesn't you could modify it or find a way to reduce the exposure of the incident bulb...

edit -If your unable to adjust the exposure you could replace the bulb with something that emits a softer color temperature. I'm using an osram 64260 (12V) which has a medium tone. Also using slides can provide better luminosity of the sample since the glass serves to refract the light above and below the object

Quote - and btw, how shitty is this microscope?! i think i'm going to return it. it washes everything out and there is no adjustment for gain or anything...

i totally agree with you about the clarity, but the included software (also crap) has an option to change the saturation, but it's not the saturation that's the problem, it's the exposure or gain. saturation is the intensity of the color, so a desaturated image would be black and white, while oversaturated would give you unrealistic colors. exposure (photography really) or gain is what i want to change, but can't. the overabundance of white means it's overexposing the image, and automatically adjusts very quickly after i try turning on lower lighting to once again overexpose. in lower light, it just lowers the framerate of the video feed very dramatically while overexposing. cest la vie... i think i'm going to return it to toys r us lol.

edit: also, about the color of the light, that pic was taken under hps lighting! the microscope itself has white leds, red, and orange, but it makes no difference because it also autocorrects the white balance. if it did a good job at all these things it does, it would be an AWESOME scope, but really since it "overexposes" the image, it kind of makes it tough to use.

Did you end up getting more seeds?

yessir! i didn't go picking through to find them yet, i wasn't 100% sure which branch they were on so i figured i'd be able to tell much more easily once they're dry. i know i pollinated around 10 calyxes on all my plants except one (but i'm sure i hit her too by accident since i've found several random seeds already).

H to the ellyeah dude nice harvest!

Thanks dude!

yeah, the microscope i have is one of the handheld ones and doesn't have any replaceable parts. it really was made for kids, not discerning adults such as us *makes pompous huffing noises*. But i see you know what you're talking about, so thanks a lot for the suggestion! i basically was just looking for something anywhere i could pick up that day (couple weeks ago), because i was suddenly worried i was going to let my plants over ripen and ruin them if i had to wait for amazon to ship it lol (i must have been high or something). really, i'd prefer a jewelers loupe, and i went to several camera and jewelry stores in the area to only find a POS 10x one was my only option.

Awesome grow log!

thanks man! the best part? it's not over yet! :D

No worries. Looking for a cheap and convenient 'usb' macro-scope is a wise option. There are plenty good models out there for macro. Microscopes are perhaps a bit excessive and unnecessary for what we need when it comes to looking at trichomes - I use the microscope for observing active yeast cultures and fungi and so it doubles up as a macro-scope for me too. But purchasing one just to look at trichomes is like using an ox knife to kill a chicken lol..

Here's a link Afrikanner..

edit - Is the gain no better without the interference from your HPS? ie. Using just your led source in the scope...

Plenty of resin there btw.. its chronic mate

hmm i just realized i never tried JUST the scope's leds on the lowest setting. i know i exhausted all other possibilities. consider this, there are 4 led settings (white only, white and red, white and orange, white and orange and red), an hps, cfl, and incandescent bulbs. so now is that a permutation when you determine all the possible combinations? i tried them all i swear! lol but i don't think the hps caused interference, but i do think that using the least amount of light would help. back to the lab! *cue batma-i mean bluntman music*

afrikaaner, hey sorry to join the party late, but subbed. :)

I'd never heard of the MI5 before i joined autoflower.net and it seems everyone on here is growing it so i'll be interested in how your experiment affects the final smoke, good work mate
