Greetings.
I'm going to be putting a small grow on from September. I'd like to maximise the space & try to grow 4 plants in there from the get go. Is this a foolish idea? Would I be better off starting 2, waiting 4 weeks then starting another 2?
My main question is about strains. Does anyone have experience with packing out such a small space & if so, what strains would you recommend? I think it makes sense to go with 4 of the same or at least similar so not to have something small & bushy next to something tall & leggy.
Also, I'm greedy :D I want yield, quality & speed (but doesn't everyone).

any suggestions much appreciated :)

There are many schools of thought about growing in a small space but some metrics apply to all of them. Amount and type of light. Style of the grow Soil or Hydro and sub-styles of those, The Cubic area you have to grow in. Then of course the genetics of your plant and the skill of the grower.

You have about .5M² foot print, good genetics will yield ~250g in that size space under normal conditions. I can do that with one plant topped at the 4th node and a little LST. It may take a new grower two plants to get that yield. If you turn out to be a good farmer two plants might be crowded. This is a picture of 1 of Dinafems Moby Dick CBD in a tent 70cm x 70cm x 150cm. It was a constant struggle

So I would recommend 2 plants at the most.

Thanks for the quick reply! Man, that MD is a monster! Is that an auto??
I'll be growing in organic soil under an invisible sun 240-H in (probably) 3 gal fabric pots.
Wouldn't exactly say I'm new to all this but new to autos & new to LED's. I'm a gardener by trade so have a slight advantage to start with & have experience with practices like topping & lst.
I reckon 2 plants is a good shout!

The Moby Dick CBD was a photoperiod plant that I flipped at 12" tall but she refused to flower after 3 weeks longer she was 18" tall I went to 14 hours dark 10 hours of light she finally entered flower but the stretch was a nightmare. I had to super crop her every three days :yoinks:.

Looks like you have all of the basics covered. What kind of weed do you want to grow - medicine if so for what? Party?

I was going to say it looked a little big!

Long term I want to be growing mainly Haze's. Some of my favourite photo strains are the super lemon/super silver haze's. If I can find autos that replicate that citrusy goodness, I think that'll be me set.
Having said that my initial priority is not having to pay for weed. It's been expensive this last 5 years since I moved back to the UK. It makes me cringe when I think how much I must have spent just getting through an Oz or two a month.
First harvest has to come fast & have a yield & quality that'll keep me stocked until the second is ready. As I'm new To LED & auto flower it makes sense to stick to one strain for the first grow.. at least. It'll make setting light distances & power easier I reckon. So first seeds need to be somewhat forgiving with big yields, tasty & super fast :D I know this is highly unlikely in a single strain but something balanced taking those points into account. don't mind if its indica or sativa based.

hope you're having a good one!

I'd recommend one plant with an autopot feeding it! It will fill the tent, and sometimes (with the right strain, good practice and a bit of luck) , you can harvest at just over 60 days :coffee:

I've tried more in a similar space - even with 2 - there's a risk of mold (unless you're heavy into defoliation, and have great airflow)
Here's one i made earlier (paritially harvested)

Auto at 62 days
full

Photoperiod after around 100 days (partially harvested)
full

Hope this helps

Yep, strain is totally what it comes down to. Sure, with topping & lst you can get most plants to do most things but certain strains will lend themselves better to certain situations & I reckon it's better to start with a strain that will naturally grow in the most suitable way for your environment.

So whats an auto strain that would fill a 70x70cm tent real fast & have a high yield of tasty buds? Or conversely, what auto strains have a much more compact footprint that allows for having 2 plants with similar results?

Really, I like the idea of multiple plants more. I'll be growing organic & want to be able to experiment with one strain in two different soil mixes.

Nice plants, by the way :)

Thanks :D (the second one has a cordobosa haze as part of the genetic makeup)

Most autos (especially with a green thumb and good watering and feeding practices) will easily fill a 70cm x 70cm.

I'd recommend looking at sweet seeds strains! (i've always been pleased with their variety)

Dutch Passion, AutoUltimate looks like a big yeilder! Plenty of Mephisto Genetics seeds grow big
Dinafem look like they have some nice strains!

You can potentially keep plants smaller by using smaller pots and lollypopping them.

Good luck with the grow .. Looking forward to seeing your organic choices! ^_^
