Indoor 3rd Times the Charm, right...?

Day 6 of the Tangie and showing her third set of leaves. She's showing some leaf curling so I'm guessing I need to raise my humidity since I'm out of the VPD range for my temps. At 86F I should be in the 70%-80% range so I turned on the humidifier. I see some red in the stem similar to my last grow. I never figured out why and how to solve it.

I lost my latest bean, again... looks like the inside turned to mush. Maybe too warm? I'm a very persistent person and also know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. With that, I bought a heating pad with thermal couple and use an old Blockbuster VHS case to try and germ. I set the thermo to 75F and really hope i get this bean to pop.

Keep at it! How's the tangie doing? I wouldn't go too hot. I've been keeping my tent at 82f max and mid 70's on the low end.

She's doing her thing. Getting a couple sprinkles of plain water every other day. It's about 80F at the pot and currently 60%rh. I need to bump the humidity up a little bit and deal with the humidifier / dehumidifier setting game till they equal each other out.

Today was a good day. I had to go away for work for a couple days so before I left, I rushed and tossed my Mophisto bean into the solo cup. Came home today to see I'm a new dad. Super psyched to try my luck at this solo cup magic I see going around. I think in finally found my germination method too.

Checked the mail and boom some beautiful beans arrived while I was away. I cant wait to try out some new flavors and varieties. Everyone was super generous so I can see how some of you guys have a crazy seed stash.

Tangie Day 9, is doing well with her 4th set of leaves coming in. I've been trying to just water the top soil when it gets dry an inch down. The pot is still pretty heavy from when I pre-watered. I might just let her go the next couple days with out water to make the roots stretch before I top her. I still have the parchment filter in place and lights are going 24 hrs. I'm thinking of putting the lights to 18/6 now that the mophisto is above ground.

Day 6 - Mophisto
Watering pretty much once a day. Plan water pH to 6.5. She's doing well and pushing along. I'm kind of excited to see what I can do with my first solo cup grow.

Day 15 - Tangie
She was showing some stress with curling leaves and losing color. I'm guessing she is just hungry considering I reused my soil from last grow and just topped the pot off with new and mixed it up. I did at 1/4 dose feed if Maxigrow and she seems to have liked it. Trying to get her back on track before I top her in the next couple days.

may not be you or the bean.....might be chems used in making the paper towels...especially if the used recycled paper pulp, lost of bleaching agents used in processing that.

I kind of wondered about that. I really think it was more me and temps than anything else. I guess I will find out during my next germ. Till then, I'll enjoy the moment, document and hope I remember next time.

Day 10 - Mophisto
Watering once every couple days. I noticed today that she is showing some discoloration. The soil/perlite mix i made still holds a bit of moisture and she isnt drinking up a whole lot yet so I'd rather under water than over water.

Day 18 - Tangie
Its topping day. I cut off the bottom leaves and the branches that were forming just above the cotyledons. I counted up 4 nodes from there and topped between the 4th and 5th set. This will leave me with 8 main colas to work with.
I hate wasting so I'm trying to root the clipping. I'm not expecting much but to keep it alive would be an accomplishment.

So after some reading up and trying to understand my red stems I also remember my typical faded growth in early veg, I realized that my soil is a heavy peat mix. I have been watering to a pH of 6.5/6.6 assuming full soil medium. From what I understand, peat based mixes like a lower pH in the 6.2/6.3 range. It kind of makes sense because when I look at the leaves I see what I think is a phosphorus deficiency. Looking at one of my handy charts I probably pickup up from someone here at AFN, in a FULL hydro mix, optimal phosphorous uptake happens between pH 5.4-6.4 and in Soil its between pH 6 and 7. With that, I will be targeting a pH of 6.2 for the next couple waterings and feedings and see what happens.

Day 12 - Mophisto
I let the soil dry out a bit before watering yesterday. She is showing some leaf stress that I'm not really sure what going on. Her fifth node is finally starting to form after a stall in growth for a day. My guess is I over watered her a bit so I really need to keep an eye on how much I give. My soil tends to hold onto moisture more than i expected.

Day 20 - Tangie
She is doing ok. Showing some leaf stress similar to the Mophisto. I gave her a small dose of molasses yesterday to try and bring some color back into her leaves. After doing some reading last night I found that a peat based soil should be targeting a pH of 6.2/6.3. So i will try to hit that number for the next few waters.
