honestly -- i am mixing my mixes by the gallon (just easier to calculate) -- i never use the whole gallon tho.
- i usually just saturate the soil until theres run off
- i think a good watering amount would be 1/3 of the container.
in your case -- 1L of water per +/- Gallon container sounds perfect.
