I may be wrong, but I think after reading FD's thread when the roots touch the sides, they go into the flowering stage sooner. I think what he is suggesting is that depth of root is more important... I think that's what he's saying anyway..

You might have to get a muffler for the exhaust fan. Mine runs loud. You can buy them or build one yourself if it causes to much noise. You could also check out some LST techniques to cut down on any height restrictions. Good luck with your grow!

Since you're still pretty new to all this I'd recommend that you just keep it simple. If you've got fem seeds I would plant them directly into 3 gallon pots. But if I remember correctly, you've got regular seeds. I don't like to plant those right into their final pots as you then use a lot of that expensive soil for males that will probably get trashed. I use 4.5" x 5" deep square pots to start mine. They are big enough for the first 3 weeks or so, until they sex. Then I transplant the females to their final 3 gallon pots. If I want to keep a male for pollen, I just leave it in the small pot. It will get big enough in it to harvest some pollen.

LST?? What's that?

Mine go into flower the males in 3 to 4 weeks in the indoor pool. The females take about a week longer. the roots definately don't touch the sides of anything in the pool cause they are in net pots and I can see them. The ones going outside I don't plant into pots until the plants show sex. I plant them first into one gallon pots and let them sit for another two weeks until they fill the pots and roots start to show at the bottom of the pot drain holes and then I plant them into my raised beds. I really doulbt that they would sex any faster than they do. Again this sounds like conjecture to me. What the hell do I know but you can't believe everything you read and this whole thing sounds dubvious at best. The nice thing about all these grow ideas is that you own the seeds. you own the pots that you are going to cut the bottom out of and if that makes you happy - go for it.

I went all out.......

I have the following items on the way:

1. 2'x4'x5' Mylar Grow Box

2. Fox Farms Hydro Trio Nutes

3. PH Test kit and PH up and Down

4. 240w Lighthouse Blackstar LED Grow Light - 3w LEDS's

5. 4" Inline Exhaust Fan, Phat Carbon Filter 4x8 combo

6. Hydrofarm Speed Controller 120v 15 amp duct fan adjuster

I will go to the local hippie store and get Fox Farms Ocean Forest and a bag of Happy frog.

If I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it all the way. In case you think I'm rich, I am not. I just sold one of my WWII rifles..

Fair trade off I think.

It will pay off in time! I'm really not sure the difference, but you should have got the fox farm trio for soil.

yo mellow good luck on your grow. you look like you have the setup up going on, im jealous. and dont worry about the start up cost it will pay for itself soon. if your anything like me, smoking and toking from the wake n' bake all the way till the bedtime toke then you have made a wise investment. plus the second grow and on in so so so cheap once you already have everything. except for the electric bill thats constant. so cram your grow box and make use of every volt of electricity you use.

Yeah, I know the line. They make 2 versions of the trio pack, 1 for soil and 1 for hydro. He ordered the hydro for soil. Like I said thou not sure the difference or if it matters that much.
