Outdoor 10 day old auto grow problems

Hi all

I am completely new to growing so thought I'd start out with an outdoor auto which I am growing on my balcony. I opted for a northern lights auto for my first grow. Something supposedly nice and simple.

Well bith my plants spouted 10 days ago an all seems fine. Nice colour etc although they dont seem to have grown any in the last 5-6 days although I have noticed a new set of leafs appearing.

I haven't used any nutes. I just used a regular potting mix with 20-25% perlite for irrigation Etc. would any of you seasoned pros have any tips/ advice. sorry if I'm asking stupid questions but im really new to all this so any help would be much appreciated!! Il attach a few photos to let yous have a look.


i forgot to mention I'm based in qld Australia so they are getting a decent amount of sunlight.

Looking good bro .Time to start feeding those girls . 1/2 strength for the first week to see their reaction and then full speed ahead . Look for TaNg's feeding schedule on the site it will help big as will Muddy's intro to autos . There's lots of help here just ask .

Hello friend Welcome. Well what is your temperature a night since your growing outside, I use to grow seedling under 100watts cfls and after day 15 I transfer them outside if its summer or in my bloom room. Make sure they get at least 20/4 light, try water by spraying at the roots since they are really small yet and avoid too much water that can cause a waterlogged and stunting to a small seedling. And yes as friend 1939bear adviced you give them a 1/2 feed Happy Growing Mate. Iam also a noob but people in here are really good. Try also the outside growers forum in this site they will help you alot. :Growing:

Outdoor is not easy if temperatures are not right. The soil looks strange to me, a mix of perlite and tree parts? Hummus soil is best to use(organic) or start feeding her with liquid ferts soon, but who knows what the pH will be in that soil; I'd be careful with fert doses.
Australia is in autumn now it seems, so less than 12h of sunlight which will also have a toll on plant growth.

Hi Duke, Northern Rivers, NSW here mate, good so see another aussie & welcome. OK so your in QLD so temperature is not the problem... (this time of year we still get mid to high 20 deg days for autumn here guys and overnights of 18-20 deg) . Your mix could be (most likely) the problem... it is just chunky potting mix + perlite only ? Have you checked the PH ? This is very important, if your PH is too high or low, the plant cannot take up the nitrogen it needs for growth. How many hours of sun are they getting on your balcony ? How do you plan to feed ? Here is some of my little ones grow outdoors, this was in mid Feb to give you an idea of size, and I had soil issues & too much rain...

Thanks everyone. This has really helped. Yea Vas deferens I was thinking my potting mix had a lot to do with it. I was struggling to find one in Bunnings without any added nutes. The plants are getting around 10 hours a day. I'm really not sure what to feed them as I'm getting conflicting reports. Do u have any recommendations? Also what would u recommend as potting mix on my future grows. It's good to have a fellow Aussie here to learn from as a lot of the products talked about on here aren't available in oz or are under different names.

I am assuming you have not used any fertilizer at all as yet ? You are probably getting conflicting reports between feeding for indoor growing and outdoor growing, maybe thats whats confusing you ?? which brand potting mix did you get from bunnings ? If I was handed those plants as is at 10 days, I would be tempted to transplant them into a better soil mix, but ensuring to take enough of the original mix with it to keep the entire root system covered, at least 15-20cm down to cover the tap root, but there is a major risk of transplant shock, stunting and generally a failed / disappointing plant but leaving it in the mix the way it is, I honestly don't think it will perform too well. There is heaps of recipes for good organic mixes in the forums here, everyone has their own ways, but essential is good drainage & aeration. Microbes man, it's all about the soil microbes ! and fungi ! ... Time to go all weed nerd dude and study.
