DetroitDarren tests out Athena

DetroitDarren tests out Athena Fertilizer

In this journal I will be documenting how well Athena’s Pro Line performs.

I am going to test it against Fox Farms since that is my go-to.

Some information about the strain I will be using:

  • Multiverse Beans Apples And Bananas Auto is a hybrid autoflowering strain testing 19-25% THC, combining Apples and Bananas auto unique genetics with Fatso 84’s heavy structure. Expect banana cream, tropical from the Multiverse Beans Preservation Line.
  • Put the seeds in a ziplock baggie with a wet paper towel September 23rd
  • Seeds cracked on September 24th and put into the dirt on September 25th
  • Soil - Sunshine Mix #4

Once they pop up, I’ll call it day 1.

Day 1

One of the seeds popped up last night at some point and it’s the one I will be running with Athena.

The other see is just breaking the surface and will be up by tonight. This one I am running with Fox Farms.

Back to the good stuff:

light - 600 watt off brand bar light turned down to 20% right now.

Light schedule - 19/5 (damn power company raises rates between 2-7 pm)

Bags - 5 gallon no name fabric pots from Temu.

Fans - 6" vivosun oscillating fan and a 6" clip on fan.

I think that’s about it for now. Thanks for stopping by :sign_of_the_horns:

Did you mix your batch tank nutrients yet?

Not yet, how soon should I start feeding her? I was gonna wait until week 2 at least.

I thought in sunshine #4 , they say you should start feeding as soon as the plant sprouts! Unless you are using re amended soil from a past grow. If it’s new, id start feeding immediately at a low seedling dose, wk1 or whatever from the soil feed schedule.

Ok, cool! Thanks for the heads up :devils-horn-smiley-emoticon:

Double check but I’m pretty sure.

Google says withing 7days of sprout. It does have a very light dose of starter nutes to carry thru the first wk or so depending on strain.

Man…the sprout for the Fox Farms tester has helmet head…I’ve never seen it like this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks @Kspun . I was thinking that I sprayed that little shell a lot hoping it will pop off. If it looks that way when I get home, I’ll pop another bean just in case.

Spray it with water to help loosen and soften it up and take a couple pairs of tweezers, one in each hand, and break that and the thin membrane off the sprout being careful to not damage the sprout. I try to grab both sides of the shell, one in each pair of tweezers and separate, I hold one side with my arm braced against something sturdy so it doesn’t wiggle or move the delicate sprout, and pull to separate the other side, being careful to not put any pressure in the sprout. Once the shell is off, make sure the thin membrane is off too, so the seeds can open. I get one or two of those every round, I think I germ my seeds too shallow sometimes, is the problem. It happens and is fixable just get on it ASAP

I got the shell off the second one this morning. I’m kind of worried though, she got real leggy over night so I built up a mound around her base.

I guess we will see what happens over the next couple of days.

She should be fine, might need a lil help til she can stand on her own, but looks like you got to get in time!

So I had to check on shell head and it looks like I clipped one of the cotyledons when I removed the shell.

She’s a fighter, I know it!

Both got a feeding this morning. Athena got some core and grow, but just a little. Fox Farms got some Cultivation Nation Veggie too, but just a little.

No pics today, nothing has really changed.

I’ll post up some pics tomorrow to see if either liked the ferts.

How did your experience with mixing your first batch tank of nutrient concentrate go?

I didn’t do it. I have a half gallon watering can, so I did 2 teaspoons of Grow and 1 of Core, it should be near the right ratio for what I am working with. I am grabbing a couple of 3 gallon buckets this weekend to mix it and will toss in an aquarium aerator to keep it going.

Does this sound about right @Simply_nuggets ?

No, you do not need to run an aerator

Also, the powder ratio goes off of weight not off of a volume metric measurement such as a teaspoon.

Ultimately, if you got your EC right, it should not be an issue, but I would do it properly going forward.

I would follow the instructions and weigh out 2 pounds per gallon.

You could get three 1 gallon water jugs, fill them up 2/3 of the way

Add 2 pounds of powder, shake it up until dissolved, and then add the remaining third of water.

At that point, it will be a shelf stable concentrate for roughly a year, and you can measure out of that into your water to make your feed
