290g+ Organic Auto in 70 Days: Zero Training, 24/0 Flatline, and the 100% Active Root Zone

Hey AFN Community,

I’ve been growing for over 40 years, and for the past 2.5 years, my partner and I have been perfecting an Indoor Autoflower system that completely shatters the internet standard of 100-150g per plant. We are pulling a verifiably stable 290g+ of dry buds per plant in exactly 70 days from seed to harvest. No marketing hype, pure plant physiology.

The crazy part? We do absolutely NOTHING to the plants. Zero training. No LST, no HST, no defoliation. We don’t even pick off yellow leaves until they fall off naturally.

Here is the blueprint of our 2.40m x 2.40m setup that achieves an effective 6.63g / day per plant space via a perpetual two-farm rotation:

1. The Interlighting LED Tornado

We only have 2 meters of vertical height. Instead of hanging powerful lights above the canopy and blasting the top while getting popcorn buds below, we doubled our LED count and hung them vertically to the left and right of the plants. Because we don’t prune, the lateral light hits the un-trained holiday-tree structure perfectly. Every single one of the 400-500 flowering sites gets maximum photon density (DLI 45) right on its flank.

2. The 100% Active No-Till Soil Engine

We run 25L (and now transitioning into 50L fabric pots) using Plagron Batmix mixed with Perlite/Pumice, Startrex, and Mycorrhizae.

  • The Kieselgur (Diatomaceous Earth) Shield: We top our pots immediately with a 3-4 cm layer of Kieselgur. This keeps the soil capillary action active to the absolute uppermost millimeter. While most AutoPot growers have a 10cm dry “dead zone” at the top, our roots grow just millimeters beneath the Kieselgur. Plus, it serves as a 100% organic barrier against fungus gnats.
  • Liquid Reactivation: We run a strict No-Till rotation with 15 days of dark rest between cycles. We harvest the plant, pull the main root trunk, and insert a new 7-day-old Jiffy into a 15cm pocket of BioBizz Light-Mix to avoid the Day 10 nutrient shock. We re-amend top-down by watering in Startrex, Mycorrhizae, and Biotabs Silicium Flash activated with Bactrex. The new roots immediately hijack the massive, established old fungal network.

3. The 24/0 VPD Flatline

We run our lights 24 hours straight. No dark period. This eliminates the “climate death spiral” of temperature drops and humidity spikes. We lock our environment at a constant 26.5 °C (79.7 °F) and 55% Relative Humidity, creating a flawless VPD flatline of ~1.3 kPa through the entire bloom phase. Under 24 hours of light, our DLI of 45 means the plants only need a gentle, constant PPFD of ~520 µmol/m²/s. In full stretch (around day 35-40), these monsters drink 5 liters of water per day per plant from our 750L reservoir via the AutoPot valves.

We just popped some Mendo Frost and Barney’s Farm genetics into the new 50L fabric pots, and at day 25, they are expanding exponentially with a massive branch explosion.

We came up with this system completely on our own through observation, and we are tired of hearing that Autos need to be small or heavily trained to yield high. Let’s discuss the physics of the un-trained plant!

Welcome to AFN, always awesome to have people thinking outside the box! Got any more pics? Sounds cool, but we need to see more pictures of the entire process as well as those 300g finished plants. Pics of the plants growing in that setup etc. sounds interesting. What’s the wattage you guys are using in what size space? The pics you posted don’t show anything ?? Would love to see a complete seed to harvest. I’m not doubting you without any proof, but we have seen some bold claims lately with autoflowers. I’d love to see pictures of entire process, grow room setup etc. from what I read, it seems like you are using more light than a standard setup, or am I misreading that? I’ve seen some setups in the past with 360° lighting that grew some impressive plants, but they were t playing with autos. And they were expensive and used way more light than a usual setup. Do you have a gram per watt number you could give us? A lot of growers go by that. Anyway I’m super curious, thanks for posting up. Hope to hear more .

Hi KingRatt,

Thank you for the warm welcome! It’s great to connect with a global moderator who appreciates thinking outside the box.

To answer your questions about our lighting specs and efficiency with absolute clarity, here is the exact hardware breakdown and the math behind our setup:

We are running a total of 8x 240W LED boards equipped with Samsung LM301H diodes inside our 2.40m x 2.40m (approx. 8ft x 8ft) tent.

However, we never blast them at full capacity. We dim the boards down to run between 40% and 60% max depending on the plant stage. This gives us a real, drawn wall wattage of roughly 1,152W. Distributed over our space, this translates to an efficient ~160 to 190 Watts per square meter (W/m²). Running these high-quality Samsung diodes at half capacity means they barely generate heat, remain incredibly efficient, and deliver a perfectly balanced light spread from the sides without forcing us into a temperature battle.

Regarding the traditional Gram-per-Watt (g/W) metric: Based on our stable 290g benchmark with 6 plants, our total dry harvest per rotation is exactly 1,740 grams. Divided by our drawn wall wattage, the math is straightforward:

  • 1,740g / 1,152W = 1.51 g/W

While we know many growers track this number closely, for our specific methodology, g/W is honestly a secondary metric. Because we treat every single plant as an individual giant and give them massive physical space (over 1 meter in diameter each), we don’t try to optimize per light bulb, but rather per genetic potential per day.

Living in Germany, our electricity rates are infamously high, so the real efficiency for us shows up in the total power consumption over the full 70-day cycle:

  • 1.152 kW x 24 hours = 27.65 kWh per day.
  • 27.65 kWh x 70 days = 1,935.4 kWh total energy consumption for lighting.

This means we generate ~0.90 grams of premium organic flower per single kWh. Total production costs—including our organic No-Till inputs, the dehumidifier, and lighting—stay rock-solid at roughly €0.70 per gram of dry high-grade flower. The 24/0 microclimate flatline delivers phenomenal biomass production for the energy invested.

The plants you see in the photos are actually part of a new mission: We are actively searching for new strains to replace our old Cookies line. If they end up tasting and hitting as good as the old batch, we are hoping to push them way past the 300g per plant mark in our high-performance setup.

Right now, we are testing two different genetic lines:

  1. The Mendo Frost Autos (in the 50L fabric pots) are officially rated around 220g. We want to see how far our system can push them past their standard breeder limit.
  2. The Barney’s Farm bushes are showing phenomenal vegetative growth completely organically without a single drop of mineral fertilizer. We don’t know their final weight yet, but the daily structural explosion is insane.

We are highly interested in your recommendations! If you guys know of any absolute heavy-weight, stretch-loving, massive autoflower genetics that could thrive in a 50L No-Till interlighting environment, please let us know.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and swapping some advanced knowledge with the community here!

Happy growing,

Wow! That is impressive! Plants look great too! If you are after massive plants of very high quality check out Dream Beans they have been outperforming most everything else in my tents as far as size and the quality is insane! You can find them here by tagging @Derek420Colorado to get the best advice on the biggest genetics. I’m at work right now but I can get back to you later with more information and some other breeders known for big plants. We have several members here who grow massive plants with lst, and hst pushing 2-3lbs regularly. But the way your doing it is totally different and very interesting  I like it! Can’t wait to chat more and hear all about it!

Hi KingRatt,

Thank you so much for the amazing feedback and the massive compliment! It really means a lot coming from a veteran grower like you. We are thrilled that you find our “No-Touch” approach interesting.

Wow, Dream Beans sounds exactly like the kind of genetic powerhouse we are looking for! Thank you so much for this tip. Pushing past the standard limits and finding breeders who select for raw vigor and massive structures is our main goal right now. I will definitely look into them and tag @Derek420Colorado to get some insights on their biggest heavy-hitters.

Hearing that some of your members pull 2-3 lbs with heavy training is absolutely wild – that is serious master-class growing! It makes us even more curious to see what these specialized big-plant genetics can achieve when they are just left completely alone to do their natural thing under our 24/0 vertical light setup.

Have a good shift at work! Take your time, we are highly looking forward to the other breeders you mentioned and can’t wait to dive deeper into the physics of this run with you.

Cheers and happy growing,

I really like this and I’m very very interested in hearing and seeing more! This is really awesome, and a very unique approach to growing! Thanks again for sharing and I think there is a lot to learn from how you are doing things! I know everybody grows different, in fact the way I grow and use the very limited space I have is totally different from your approach. The way you are using light is rad, trapping the moisture with diatomaceous earth is genius for bottom feeding! Really cool guys, I’m stoked! I really can’t stress how excited I am to see more from y’all!

Hey @Derek420Colorado,

Our global moderator KingRatt pointed us in your direction! We are highly advanced organic No-Till growers from Germany running an automated 50L fabric pot AutoPot setup with vertical interlighting LED boards (Samsung LM301H, flat 24/0 DLI of 45, rock-solid 1.3 kPa VPD).

We are currently hunting for absolute monster autoflower genetics that love to stretch, stack massive lateral branches, and have the structural integrity to handle an extreme metabolism (our big plants drink over 5 liters a day).

KingRatt mentioned your Dream Beans genetics are outperforming almost everything in terms of raw size and craft quality. We would love to hear your personal recommendation: Which of your current strains is the absolute heaviest structural giant that would thrive the most in an untouched, vertical-light No-Till environment?

Greetings from Germany,

Welcome @HumbleSparrow10 :devils-horn-smiley-emoticon: Looking forward to checking out your grows. Just curious, 70 days for everybody no matter what? Is that just how long you give them, or is that a “sweet spot” for you? Also since you’re in Germany, we should tag in the legendary @tobe

Hi! To be completely honest with you: the 70 days from seed to harvest isn’t a strict rule we set, it’s just exactly how the Gorilla Cookies Auto performed in our system.

When cannabis became legal here in Germany on April 1st, my girlfriend had a lucky hand and picked that specific strain. I decided that we would strictly grow only this single genetic line for months, just to truly understand the plant and eliminate our mistakes step by step.

The real breakthrough happened when we switched from 15L pots to 25L pots. The yields instantly jumped from an initial 600-900g total to a rock-solid, constant 1,740g for the tent—which averages out to almost exactly 290g per plant, nearly down to the gram every single time. The strain just hit its perfect finish at day 70 under our conditions.

Now that we are testing new genetics like the Mendo Frost and Barney’s Farm, we will have to wait and see. If a strain needs more time, we will adapt our rotation accordingly.

And a big hello to @tobe! Great to see a legendary grower from Germany tagged in here.

Cheers,

Hey friend hope you are doing well! A few more breeders that have had significantly higher yields compared to my averages are @laughinghyenaseeds , @Nancys_Own , Speedrun, and Night Owl , are all known to be bigger genetics. Night owl is more hit and miss for large plants, you have to do your research to make sure they aren’t smaller genetics. in theory anything else more genetically Sativa will give you bigger plants than your indicas. Even in autos.

You are totally right about the Sativa genetics and structural growth! The Gorilla Cookies we ran were a pretty straight 50/50 hybrid, and looking back, that balance was probably the secret sauce for our setup. The Sativa side gave them the structure and branching to expand under the vertical lights, while the Indica side brought in the dense, heavy bud weight at the end.

Pure Indicas would probably be too compact and dense for our No-Touch style, so we will definitely look for 50/50 hybrids or Sativa-dominant lines from Speedrun and the other breeders you recommended. .

Thanks again for the awesome input!

Welcome @HumbleSparrow10 to our community.

Nice you found a cultivar you really like. From my experience I can tell you that different auto strains need different time. One thing I noticed is the genetic, some strains are closer to the ruderalis or lowryder gen and started a bit more faster to switch to flower mode. This are the strains that are fast but didn’t give you big plants. It also depends on the light schedule. I tested my own work for true auto under 24/0 light , with this schedule the plants are much faster than growing with 18/6 light. Some other facts are root development in bigger pots it can also take a bit longer till they switch in flower mode.

It’s a good way to take one cultivar and get some growing experience and learn how they act in different pot size and light schedule.

If you start a journal please tag me so I can see what’s going on in your grow room.

I wish you a nice day and happy growing.

Hey @tobe ,

Thanks for the warm welcome and the great insights! You hit the nail right on the head, and my latest inspection right before leaving for my trip proved your theory 100% correct.

I was in the grow room every night, and the plants absolutely exploded—but they didn’t stretch vertically. Instead, they switched straight into heavy flowering mode right at Week 3.5.

It’s exactly as you described regarding the genetics: Both the Mendo Frost (FastBuds) and the Barney’s Farm bushes seem to have that strong, fast Ruderalis/Lowryder heritage. They built thick stalks and became extremely bushy, wide, and healthy, but without the massive vertical stretch I was aiming for. They will likely stay quite compact, but the sheer density of the canopy is insane.

That also explains the sudden 80% humidity spike I experienced right before leaving. The biomass became so dense and the transpiration so high as they transitioned into bloom that I had to crank up the dehumidifier immediately. The AutoPots are fully running now.

I took detailed photos right before heading out for my 5-day trip to the mountains. I am very curious to see how the bud development looks when I get back. I will post a big update with the before-and-after photos in 5 days and make sure to tag you so we can analyze the flower structure together!

Happy growing,

Vertical interlighting makes a lot of sense for autos in short tents. Most setups lose a good portion of the canopy to light falloff from top-down fixtures. The 70-day timeline is an interesting benchmark too. Autos usually get harvested whenever they finish, so finding a strain that consistently wraps up in that window takes some real selection work.

Hey crew,

Thanks for the feedback! To be completely honest, you hit the nail on the head: it is incredibly difficult to find that one perfect strain that fits a high-efficiency rotation.

The 70-day total lifespan was just the footprint of our Gorilla Cookies benchmark. Because of how they grew, we were able to harvest the main tent every 6 weeks. We actually think we might have just found the perfect successor that matches that exact growth model and timeframe. It’s not the Mendos or the Barney’s currently in my tent, but another variety we are testing in our group. If it delivers what it promises, we will definitely share the results here.

But to be completely transparent with you guys: when we started this thread, we actually thought that in a massive community like this, it wouldn’t be a big deal to find growers who could point us directly to strains that naturally grow into absolute monsters with heavy yields.

Honestly, our post was a bit of a shout-out to find like-minded people. We are simply looking for strains that have proven to build massive frames and deliver huge yields in a tight timeframe—no matter the medium or style. We just want to know from real experience: Where are the true giants? And what do you guys consider a genuinely high yield per plant? Everything else is secondary to us.

Off to my 5-day mountain trip now. Let’s see what the jungle looks like when I get back next week!

Cheers,
