DIY Disposing of wastewater, run off or DWC waste, my solution

I had 6 and 4 kale... way to much lol
Was outside though.
Looks like your going to the market and setting up a booth
Our friends have now gotten in the habit of calling and being like hey can I come get lettuce, hell yeah, were harvesting a ton everyday now please come get some.

Now when I do my weekly water changes I simply take my "waste water" and RE-PH it to what I'm growing dump it in the res. and presto, fresh organically grown veggies.

Excellent solution, looks great

Can you go into some more details about the PVC pipe setup with the lettuce?

Looks like they are in a rapid rooter (or similar) with roots hanging in the pipe, and you pump water to the top of the system and let it flow through back to the bottom?

Yes I use rapid rooters for all my hydros, here is the link for the tiered growing system: Amazon product

You could very easily put one of these together, but after adding up all the parts I would have needed, it was actually cheaper to just order it, I'm going to do away with the tiers as the bottom 2 just don't get light penetration that is needed. I plan on building a shelf and set the 3 tiers side by side on it with my reservoir underneath.

Thanks for going over that!

The price does seem pretty good for all that PVC and the couplings. Great idea to flatten it out. Having 3 stories like that I think would really only work will outdoors where the angle of light changes throughout the day.

Where do you get seeds for things like lettuce lol...? I use quite a bit if romaine lettuce through the week, I'm wondering if it might actually save money to try and grow my own.

Thanks again for sharing!

Local feed store, I buy what is called Paris Island Romaine, its a bit more compact than regular romaine and tastes the same. Just couple dollars for I think 80 seeds. And so far everyone had germinated and grown.
With the paris island romaine, it grows really quick, and if you cut straight across to harvest the head, the roots and base will grow back up to 3 times. I would strongly suggest it, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but even my wife noticed that since the pandemic, alot of "fresh" items in the store didn't taste right to her all the lettuces were limp and flavorless. We started our own and it is quite a stark contrast how much tastier our home grown lettuces are even if grown in old DWC water.

I found the romaine on amazon for you: Amazon product

I think em1 its some bacteria should be able to break it down.

Using EM•1® Microbial Inoculant on a regular basis will help to keep enough beneficial microbes in the system to keep nutrient levels low enough to prevent the growth of algae. EM-1® also has the ability to neutralize salts—which can act as a natural chlorinator—and prevent them from crystallizing on pool surfaces.

Nittogen causes algae blooms
