New Grower Need help with my first grow...

hi there, i am not an experience grower but i would say continue to grow them as they look good now, just treat them as they are in day 30 :)

So I added a carbon scrubber to my grow tent because as soon as they showed their sex they started to smell really grassy/skunky...After i added the scrubber, i still get some smell...maybe from the passive intake flaps on the bottom of my tent?
Also a quick question...i have a little 6 inch clip on fan. Not sure if I should use it? Any suggestions on using it?
Also, when should I switch from MH bulb to my HPS bulb? Showed sex about a week ago...

DAY 54 or DAY 33 (stunted them and they have all the signs of a 33 day old plant, see previous posts)

Ok, I look at it like they are on day 33..So I have been feeding them just Coco A + B. Fed them 15ml of each this morning. I gradually step up the nutes a few drops each day. They are growing so fast...about 1 inch vertically a day! I think they look good? What do you think? Still do not know when to switch from MH to HPS 400w bulb? Any tips would be awesome. Thank you all for being so awesome!! Now for the pics:

Hey Slimjim  Your plants look fantastic to me, keep up the good work! I had a similar issue on my grow where I stunted them and what looked like day 30 plants were actually day 50 or so - I did the same thing you did and treated them as a day 30 plant and followed like that and they came out alright, if a bit late :smoke:

On when to switch to HPS - I would do it when they stop the pre-flower stretch, as in whey you notice they stop growing rapidly and focus on flower formation, but I'm just a newbie so wait for an answer from a more competent member :peace:

Best of luck!!

Thanks Peach for the kind words and the light advice. They are still growing like crazy, at least an inch everyday, now my new worry is they are going to outgrow my grow tent! lol They are about 24 inches tall and in the pots more like 36 inches tall...my grow tent is only 60 inches tall, no subtracting the light and hood! I guess I could have worse issues! lol Do you have any grow journals I can check out?

Hey Slim, that's great to hear about the growth but understandably you would be worried about it since you don't have much overhead height to work with. On my last grow I ran into height issues but that's because I was running powerful LEDs that bleached the c**p out of the top of my plants. That being said, if you're worried you are going to fry your babies:

You can still try to do some LST on them. You know what they say about LST, earlier is better than late but better late than never. One way of doing this would be tying a string to the top of the main stem and just bending it slightly, so as not to break it, then re-tying it every day to make the bend ever so lower, if you know what I mean. I was careless on my LST attempt and broke the main stem (plant still recovered), because I didn't do it in increments as above.:check:
There is also supercropping when push comes to shove but I wouldn't recommend as it's not as simple as LST and not sure how your autos would react to it.I have never done it but I heard about some people successfully supercropping autos when height becomes an issue. I would try LST first personally.

Unfortunately I don't have a grow diary yet, I am just a newbie (that studies a lot) and I'm too shy to show my efforts! Great to see yours though :gthumb:

Thanks for the advice Peach...I was actually tucking the main stem under other stems but they grow so fast that they pop out...I checked them this morning and the main stems leaves were on the glass hood..they didn't bleach or burn...I don't think my 400w MH gets hot enough to burn my plants...I can stick my hand on the glass hood and leave it there and it doesn't get too hot.
I do love this hobby already!! Some days I open the tent doors and just sit there and stare at them...it's such a beautiful plant! I love the whole DIY scene...I also built a homemade brewery, brewing 10 gallon batches of home brewed beer...also I make cigar box guitars from simple material's from hardware stores....I'll posts some pics later if you want to see a few of them! All these things help with my intense craving to express myself creatively.. (-:

DAY 37 or Day 58

Good morning to all you east coast US people! Question: So I have been feeding my girls Canna Coco A+B and have been stepping up my nutes each day a few drops...I am up to 16ml per gallon...now according to the feeding schedule on Canna's site, the most they give is 16m per gallon, and that is for plants that are in mid to late flowering, before they start cutting back on nutes toward the end of the grow...So my question is, do I keep stepping up the nutes or do I stay at 16? They are in preflower and are still growing vertically up to a 1/2 inch to an inch a day. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated, THANK YOU!!! (-:

Hi SlimJim :)

The US gallon, which is equal to approximately 3.785 litres (god bless you google) ^_^

I'm a canna coco user and mix up my batches in roughly 4 litre portions.
I'm in flower and currently feeding the following amounts.

10ml CocoA
10ml CocoB
15ml Canna Boost (no EC with this beauty)
4ml Dutch Pro Explode
4ml CalMag

EC at around 1.5

2ml PH down to 5.9

*******************

I would stick with what you are doing if the leaves are happy and green.

If you're looking to test the nute tollerance of the plant, you could really do with an EC meter - it's quite easy to over or under do it with just ML per litre measures. In this case i would up the ec by 0.1 every feeding to see where the tips of the leaves burn. and then back down by 0.2 or 0.3 and carry on the building to 0.1 below the burn point.

Thank you so much Blue for the quick response!!!...This is my first grow and I am a little nervous since I nearly killed my plants about a month ago, so I worry too much...lol But these plants in general are a beautiful thing to see...
I was told earlier that I should wait until vertical growth stops before I switch bulbs from MH to HPS, but there girls will not quit! Flower sites are popping up all over the place, but she is getting taller and taller. I have my 400w MH light about 2 inches from the tops of my plants, so they aren't searching for light. I added a little 6 inch clip fan, but not sure why I would need it, so I shut it off.
Another question..Is there a page on AFN with links to completed grow journals, or do I just have to search completed ones out?
Again thank you so much Blue and everyone that had helped me along the way..I am already in love with this hobby and I will definitely be sticking around for a while!! Peace and love -slim
