Outdoor Outdoor UK, first time - journal & ref

I'm definitely with Maffro on this. Ride it out for as long as you can, but get it harvested before it all goes Pete Tong...
:Sharing One:

they ll be budding fast for another month at least, you can cover them with plastic roof if you want to keep the rain out and the wind in, you'd be looking at mid october, basically when it is moulding faster than it's growing.

How do I know when is the point at which I know a plant has become viable in terms of THC production reaching a level of beneficial use to the grower?

I ask because its likely that I may have to pull my supers early due to adverse weather (although this is unlikely at present - its lovely here!) They are looking good and might get me high now (?) but I obviously want to leave them in for as long as possible to fatten up and develop further. Knowing that its likely they won;t get time to mature naturally, I want to establish (in my head) at what stage of bud development you'd all be happy to pull early if you were in the same situation? What stage do they have to be at exactly, to be worth it? Not sure if mine are still pre-flowering or flowering (I think flowering) but there are loads of bud sites but they're all still quite small (but smell divine!)

I performed some defoliation yesterday to keep air moving around the heads and allow light deeper into each plant -which is hopefully the last time I need to do that before harvest as I realise they need all the photosynthesis they can get right now!

It hasn't rained for over a week - should I bother watering them at all? They don't seem too thirsty..

thanks peeps

Hi Somerset, The only absolute way to tell is by looking at the trichs. What sort of effect are you looking for? Are you looking to use during the day, mainly at night both from the same plant? If you area medical user is it for pain, depression, anxiety?

Purely recreational use in the day. I like the way THC lifts me up and keeps me up, but have realised I need a bit more CBD in my current diet to keep it balanced, or I get a bit too rushy and enthusiastic!

I understand the whole trich thing quite well and have a budscope to keep an eye on things, but if you have to pull early -regardless of trichs, is there a point at which there is no point at all in bothering because its just too early?

Hello Somerset, why don't you cut off a small bud off the most ready looking, quick dry it and see what it's like - that will give you an indication of where things stand. That is what I did with my 3 AutoMazars .

people can give you advice and opinions, but there's nothing like experiential data when you are dealing with an edible plant. You also don't know exactly what strains you are growing so theoretical advice might not be as absolute/accurate as a practical smoke-it-and-see approach.

They look really good, keep on keeping on. :kusht:

Yeah dude give her a test smoke! :kusht:

Generally I think that overall quality will tend to improve over time, but you need to bear in mind that the rate at which improvement occurs is steadily diminishing as days get cooler and shorter.

If you harvest right now you will have something. If you can get to them to chop them down should you need to at short notice then why do it any sooner?

At the end of the day "Suck it and see" is probably a fair strategy. You could go for an incremental harvest, to have buds at different stages of development or maturity and see what you like best.

I'll def try a test smoke three days before I think I have to do it but its not time yet. It max's about 25C here at the moment and about 50% humidity (although its cool but wetter in the mornings) so they're powering along. I'm just trying to establish a mental pathway for decision making in the coming weeks as the weather will probably turn soon. I'm aiming at leaving them for another 3 weeks at least, but might do try incremental harvest to push what I can get safely should things get mouldy!
