Self watering Tray2Grow experiment đź‘€

No the tank is super clean with the canna a&b nutes! I don’t even use a pump I just stir it once a day with my ec truncheon. And the trays are super clean inside so far too, no residue or film. The setup also comes with trays for microgreens and tomato spikes with wicks. I’ve seen plants started in solo cups that were never hand watered once. I’ve seen a grow with the full size bed that had about 25 gallons of BAS and fed tap water only. It’s great for me because growing in coco is growing hydroponically. Just a great rig all around in my opinion.

Nice! I've got a pretty hands off irrigation/coco setup going but the hoses and especially the drain lines are a pain in the ass. Generating enough downhill slope with limited tent height and then stiff ass hoses that want to lift up all over. I'll be following to the end for sure.

Is this your first grow with the setup?

Yep first time. I have my reservoirs up high because i like having minimal hose outside the tent and this way i can shoot straight through the side zippers instead of traveling down to the vent hole plus the extra gravity push makes me feel better. A 12 gal tank each side, you can run just one res but I have two setup for eventual perpetual grow.

For 2 years I followed advice to keep starting ec low around 0.6 (300 ppm) as well as keep wattage and DLI low and my 17 day old plants looked like this

This grow the seedlings received 2.0 EC (1000 ppm) and lights 24/0 with starting DLI approximately 38 and the 17 day old looks like this

There are other factors involved, genetics being a big one. Some strains can take all that and love it. Others absolutely cannot! I think its a good idea to start light and push slowly and watch the plants. Thats just me tho. I think your plants look great, so obviously they like what you are doing. I really like those tray2grow mats! They look like they can really simplify a grow!

Day 19 (last post mistakenly said day 17 but was day 16)…I sure wish the back left Creme Tasmo hadn’t topped herself because I’m going to miss out on some beautiful purple flowers! Bottom left night owl is still wobbly from getting tugged at by my dog but it’s getting better as the stalk gets fatter. Leaf tucking the plants on the right like crazy because 2 hours after tucking fans way down in to the plant they’re right back up again. Very tempted to remove a couple but will continue to put in the work. Trying hard to naturally avoid a Christmas tree shape while not stressing them in any way. Loving the trays so far, definitely don’t miss hand watering or worrying about removing runoff water. But we’ll see how it goes when flower time comes and they get finicky.

Day 15 lots of leaf tucking and readjusting through the day, one advantage of no top feed is that I can smush the fan leaves down a lot further and they’re not in the way. Should have a better chance at an even canopy with no training. No tucking yet bottom left plant midnight mass, my dog tugged at her a little about a week ago and her stalk is fat but a little unstable so not messing with her at all. Top left plant Creme Tasmo self topped herself after the 3rd, never seen that before. I’ll let her grow but keeping a close eye for anything weird. Besides the self topping she’s weird anyways and I don’t usually show patience with weird beans but it takes no extra effort to let her sit there so we’ll see. Maybe hard to see but second pic is the self top. ✌🏻

Ive seen that before and seen it slow down for a sec and then explode! Hopefully thats the case here! My mutant Autoseeds Permanent Marker i have now self topped itself at around the 3rd or 4th node, its still small-ish not tiny, about the same size as the smaller GDP but its probably the most branchy plant i have, started growing branches out from everywhere!

I had never even heard of self topping until now and you have one too! Wow!

Day 23
Everyone looks happy, even the infirmary tray on the right with the self topper and the night owl my dog tried to eat.

I have been real vigilant in my leaf tucking having to go back four or five times a day after the fans had sprung back up but it’s paying off! The red line shows where the TOP of the LOWEST node is

Can’t say enough how pleased I am with the trays!

Day 26
No defol yet still leaf tucking. The 2 “normal” plants are zooming right along and growing 1.5 to 2 inches a day.

Self topper is real healthy and super bushy but to be expected with only 3 nodes. All 6 tops forming an even canopy so far though thanks to some early leaf tucking.

Have to assume when my dog tried to yank her out of the pot some roots were broken and that’s why the night owl seems stunted. She’s healthy though and starting to stretch, just at a slow pace.

Just got my co2 bucket generator, I thought I’d give it a shot since I’m experimenting with more light wattage than before. About to get it ready and takes 24 hours to warm up before firing it up. Not sure how much it will help but I figure it can’t hurt. This bucket lasts 6 months so enough for two grows.
