Black Dragon Seedling - Only Cotyledon Leaves

Hi,

I don't think much can be done for these babies, but I have a number of Black Dragon seeds which have only sprouted the cotyledon leaves from seeding. It has been a couple of weeks now, and all of them have done the same thing.

A couple of others (from a different batch, made around the same time) have eventually produced other small leaves, but these are very sickly looking.

Thoughts anyone?

I am fairly sure it is because they are quite old seeds, but never had this issue before & I have used old seeds before. These are between 5 - 6 years.

Unfortunately it does look as if they are knackered @niceneasy ....I've had similar results germing old crosses and it never ends well...for me anyway.

Unless you stored those seeds in an air tight container in a cool dark enviroment they will not be any good.And even then it will be hit and miss to there quality.

They have been in those conditions, but it is 6+ years now, so I'll have to let them go. I've recently started off some different seeds with no issues, stored in the same place, but are only 4 years old.

I had some ten year old Auto ak47 seeds do that last year. I just put them in a corner to see what would happen and they eventually grew out of their funk. I ended up with one male and one female so I made some fresh beans that I haven't tested yet.
I still have a bunch of these old ak47 beans too. I bought some GA3 to help with germination and hopefully help them grow through that funk more quickly.

Getting 10 YO AK seeds working would be a great thing. My best plants were AK Autos, very hard to get good beans for them now.

As this one, and another has got a little life I'm going to let them do their thing. Maybe I get one of each & then another few seeds to get my dragons back.

....only the very first set are cotyl's mate, no midrib, etc.... the rest are true leaves, just fragged out is all,... old, tired seeds can do this,... ride them out and see if they correct and vitality is decent enough to keep them going,.. only time will tell there...
