New Grower The F'ing Finally Grows - first time grower, semi-perpetual

I'm not sure. Germination seemed a bit wonky somehow - popped kinda sideways and took a long time to fully pop, too much of the taproot making its way up rather than down - and one of the cotyledons never fully opened. On the same side, the first leaf didn't come out either, and the leaf that did has a weird mutation too and looks almost like a conjoined leaf, or like it's split. I'm curious how it'll grow.

Also, I'm really not sure there's any upside to germinating in rockwool vs straight into the medium in those small shitty nursery pots. Maybe I should have put in some side holes though.

Lol I like my small 5l shitty nursery pots! I just elevate the bottom for drainage and don't drill extra holes. Curious to see what she does too.

So, I've been AFK for a few weeks - no laptop means no infosec, no infosec means no posting. Of course, I needed the infirmary during that time, but I think we're through the woods (maybe, hopefully). Either way, always learning obviously.

PICS+updates:

Went a little awry there for a minute. Got really dark, burnt tips, verrry droopy (wish I had pics. Take what she looks like now and double it. Finally understood what 'clawing' meant). New growth was a little deformed, which you can still kind of see in the pics. On top of that, the light problems I've had (seem to be fixed now, getting 250w of 3000k COB light) caused it to like bush out and grow weird and very dense. Anyway,I figured it was overfed so I dialled it back, but that didn't really have any impact. Medium seemed to have significant buildup. Gave her some ridiculous amount of light feed yesterday - ~.5EC of my base nutes - and she's already looking nicer today. She'll be getting fed to runoff daily now, to prevent this kind of build-up. She's also thrown out pistils, so hopefully will get to growing again soon enough. As long as she makes at least 20 grams dry, I'll be pretty happy; even if she doesn't, though, I'll at least have learned. Particularly, that in coco, a too large container (can) makes it harder to water properly, and I'd be better off going as small as I can - quicker to dry, harder to overwater.

Up until this morning, she was small but looking pretty healthy, perky, with a fair amount of pubic hair, etc. Had done some LST on her, but not very well thought out so I can't imagine it helped much of anything. Still getting mostly plain tap water, but sometimes I like to dump the runoff, if I have any, into her too. Basically, trying to see what comes out of shitty care in more or less decent conditions. Anywho, snapped her main stem by mistake this morning. Taped it back with duct-tape, hopefully it holds. If not, well, we're always learning amirite?

Looking fine. Had a bit of a deficiency for a few days but a new batch of feed+daily dtw waterings and she seems fine again. Some scarring on the leaf edges, but scars=personality. She's ~2 weeks old, roots are coming out of the bottom of the little nursery pot she's in. She will either go into a 4 litre smart pot or a 7 liter square pot, depending on how much time I have to go shopping for 4 litre smart pots this week. She's growing daily in her current home and is nothing like rootbound, so no rush.

Sour Stomper FREAK:
lS41mNq.jpg

This plant is retarded. Threw out tiny little true leaves from the top pair like a week or two ago, then more or less nothing - they're about the same size as they were when I last posted - then over the last two days new growth from the ol' cotyledons. Such a weirdo. She's just sitting soaking in nutrient solution though, literal 0 effort put into it. Keep hoping she dies but she's a resilient little fucker.

Glad you're back, seems we are always in school with these girls. Always learning but I would say you will get bud. It's great to take a mistake to completion and still get bud, as long as you learn something along the way.

Oh, I'll definitely get bud. I'm particularly optimistic about this Supernatural OG girl - feel like I have a slightly better idea of how to go about it this time. After all the shit with the lights, I decided to treat this entire grow cycle as educational more than productive and have been able to relax and just kind of roll with the punches.

Update:

3BOG, ~Day 45:
Got a decent bit of foliage removed, seems to have responded well. Looking a lot perkier, and, obviously, more open. She's getting twice daily feeds of ~1EC, pH 5.8. Just the base - seems to have sufficient cal and mag, even with my reasonably soft tap water. She's never gonna win a grow comp - her growth has been all weird. I'm assuming it's down to quite a bit of stress earlier on and all the fuckery with the lights, but I suppose it could also be phenotypic. That said, she's definitely flowering, so who cares?

Sweet Skunk, ~Day 45:
This gal is the dark horse of this grow. Never expected her to do much, but she's looking really good. The unintentional supercrop accident+the shitty piecemeal LST seems to have broken apical dominance, which produced a pretty cool looking little bonsai plant. She kind of leans back, soaking in the sun. Very pious girl, constantly praying to the light. Still strictly tap water into potting mix with added worm castings. So far, I'm thrilled with her. Tough little fucker.

Supernatural OG, Day 25:

My pride and joy. Transplanted to 1 gal smartpot. She's doing well - found the first pistils today (zoom in on first pic if you're curious - closeups didn't really pan out). She's getting ~.6EC feeds, twice a day. I like her alot, she's growing really nicely, consistently.

Full tent update first:
DSC01046.JPG

3BOG, Day ~50:

What a difference a few days make. Looking good, side colas catching up with the center, etc. Smells lovely, like fruity candy. Still getting fed ~1EC to slight runoff, between twice and three times a day depending on time constraints. Still a chaotic lady, still a lil weird, but really - who of us isn't?

Sweet Skunk, Day ~50:
Still a tough little git. Was going pretty, pretty, pretty yellow so got a bit of nutes with her last feed and is back to a friendlier shade of green. Smells like weed, old school. Very pleased with this little freebie.

Supernatural OG, Day 30:
What more can I say? Explosive growth, roots out the wazoo, great structure - she's proof that I've learned something. Getting fed ~.65EC, twice a day. Will probably have a hell of a time keeping up with her down the line, but we call those good problems.

Another week in, still trucking. No real updates - feeding the same, everything going well. Sweet Skunk had a bit of a mag or nitrogen deficiency but that seems to have cleared up with a pretty mild feeding. Other than that, steady as she goes.

Only close up pics today, for variety+trich shots.

What's good, duders and duderettes, trans-duders and gender fluid butch twink dudeloos, this is your friendly neighborhood cranial accessory coming at you live with a little update from a tent that doesn't exist in a land out of time, and most definitely high, as it were, on my own supply.

First, the whole family from the point of view of a dead sister (not biological):

Pour one out for the homie Sweet Skunk. More on this later. Also, peep the 3BOG's (on the right) stem:
4LvjHBp.jpg

On the left, Supernatural OG, on the right, 3BOG. In front, by the way, is some local nursery's generic "hot pepper" seed in the fabric pot, and 9 Birdseye chilis I got in Thailand. As an aside, I feel like there should be a non-weed growing board. Anyway, individual updates:

3BOG, ~Day 75:
Absolutely no changes to report on in the like 3 weeks I've been neglectful of this thread. Still on the same feed, still rocking it despite her weird build. All of the tops have forced their way out into the light. Trich'd out, smelling like rotting and/or synthetic watermelon with a distinct lemon cleaning product type note. Very glad I invested in a good filter. I'm scared of this one, if I'm honest. I'm very intuitive and my intuitions are telling me this one is going to be a MOTHERFUCKER. I have a fearection just thinking about it.

Supernatural OG, Day 55:
Look at her go! Was looking a little deficient so getting fed ~1EC. Not really gone above that for either of these girls - tried for a second with 3BOG but she wasn't into it. SNOG is whoopin ass though, these buds are nice and tight, everything is nice and airy but also well structured and stable. REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY liking this one as a plant, but I'm not afraid of it in the same way I am of the 3BOG. She has a friendlier vibe. Had Haze smells for the most part, but these last few days I've noticed a pretty strong citrusy smell. Absolutely lovely.

And finally, a little post mortem on the SweetSkunk. Her little bonsai ass yielded some 15-20 grams (don't have an accurate enough scale, plus staggered harvest and a bunch of testers) of real good weed. Smells like WEED, yknow, just like Amsterdam smells, plus a nice, sickly caramel-ly sweetness. Could've been more grams, and probably better on the potency, but I got antsy. Either way, really pleased with this one. 15 grams out of 3 liters of shitty, unaerated nursery soil, dry humus and tapwater (plus a very occasional nutrient feeding here and there), with a bonus sprinkling of abuse, neglect, and stress, is a good deal. Unfortunately, I didn't really document its final days, and have smoked quite a bit of it since. Here are pics of what remains. Dried in a brown paper bag (the lowers got an extra week and were taken off yesterday and are in a bag now) for 2-3 days, taken out too early, now I have to really work them in the jar and it'll take a bit longer but it's a tiny amount so no biggie.
I'm high on it right now. I'm not sure I'll do a full report, but it's a significant bump above the standard on the local (black) market. Nice hybrid high, hits in the body without being crushing, eventually (hour or two, more smoke) sliding into a nice, deep slumber. Great evening smoke, nice and social. Will be getting my Dynavap soon, hopefully, and can give a more nuanced report on flavor.
