I never got a chance to actually play miniature gaming, many years ago we went to a Call of Cthulu group for a while but it didn't always meet when it was supposed to and it wasn't really a genre we had much interst in. Hubby did a bit of DMing before he met me, AD7D is what got us realising we had stuff in common when we first met, and a love of dragons. That was over 25 years ago! I'd still love to play some RPG but it's not easy to find a regular group here.

Do you buy your cattle and pigs in at calf/weaner stage and grow them on, or breed your own? I'd love to have a cow if we buy a smallholding, but I think it'll be too much responsibility. Buying weaners in and raising chickens, I can do that. Got any pics of last year's?

Yeah finding a like minded group to play with isn't easy!! I too have a thing for dragons...painted many showpiece dragons in the 20 years I have been painting.

We have a small crew of miniature cattle(Dexter and Highland) and we breed our own. The biggest thing with a cow is making sure you have enough grass for it to eat. If you don't and have to buy hay, it wont be worth it. Chickens are easy to raise, but make sure you have the stomach for the butchering, its a pretty gruesome job. Turkeys are even worse.

If you plan to bring yard soil indoors, you need to sterilize it first, too much potnetil for nasties otherwise. Place your soil in a black garbage bag, seal tightly and leave it in the sun for a couple days.

After that you can treat it like you would bagged soil. I'd use slightly more organic nutrients than normal for most yard soil, for the first run. Usa a dry, organic blended nutrient like GrowMore or Jobe's etc and you can keep it simple. Add some garden or dolomite lime, 2-3 teaspoons per gallon. Some blood meal for N would be beneficial also.

While your here. What are things I should order or find to add to my yard dirt to make a good soil!?

As much work as I'm thinking about involving my self in makes me want to try DWC lol. Soil is getting to be a pain in my ass and expensive as hell too.

What I am talking about is more applicable to outdoor growing. With indoor, I would be creating my own soil, or purchasing plain soil locally and amending it. I can go the local soil yard and buy several types of soil. I prefer sandy clay loam for outdoor use, and Loam for indoor and potting. In pots I mix in compost and/or pine bark and some coarse builders sand.

I pay $3.00 for a 30 liter bag of organic potting soil. The total cost of my soil with my amendments is around $0.50 per plant, and even less after I recycle!
