Mephisto Genetics Duckster does Mephisto

Many thanks for all of the kind words, rep, and well wishes for my girls. The league championship was last night. Being undefeated in the playoffs, my girls may have been a bit over confident as they were handed a 9-0 defeat in the first game. Since the playoffs are double elimination, they had to play another "winner take all" game. They took a 10 minute "potty break", shook it off, sucked it up, re-grouped, and went to work. They took an early lead and hung on. The final score was 7-4. Not as spectacular as some of the recent wins (12-3, 23-7, 16-6), but this was their toughest opponent. One of their best games of the season - I'm proud of them!

An update on thing 1 on day 68. I'm thinking this girl is about done. Most of the large lower fan leaves have yellowed and been removed. Some of the upper fan leaves are now yellowing. Buds have gotten dense and frosting up. Had to tie up a couple of the braches that were having trouble supporting the bud weight. Most of the pistols are amber. Trics are mostly cloudy with a mix of amber. Some of the older growth now has a lot of amber. She's on a water diet now and she will probably get the chop sometime next weekend.

An update on thing 2 on day 68. I'm thinking this girl has a bit left in her. Most of the large lower fan leaves have yellowed and been removed. Some of the upper fan leaves are now yellowing. Buds have gotten denser, but not as much as her sister and not nearly the frosting. Had to tie up a bunch of the braches that were having trouble supporting the bud weight. Not that her buds were bigger, maybe a little longer but not as fat and dense. She just has skinnier branches. Still lots of white pistols are amber. Trics are mostly cloudy but a good bit are still clear and not much amber, even on the older growth. She's still getting fed daily and will re-evaluate mid-week.

Duckster...Am I correct in thinking that you waiting until you see amber before you start your flush?

Figuring out the best time to harvest is the always the most difficult for me. Lots of good info out there on the topic but some of it is conflicting so I use blend of several things that I look at. I flush with tap for 5-10 days prior to the chop. Before I start to flush, I look for;
1. Most of the large fan leaves are yellow or gone.
2. 50-75% of the pistols are amber.
3. Buds are dense with lots of frost.
4. Trics on the new bud growth to be mostly cloudy. At this point, some of the older bud growth will have quite a bit of amber. I assume the 10-20% number that is recommended is based on the plant as a whole.

So, are you saying that you wait until you see some amber before you start your flush? I'm asking 'cuz in my last grow (which was my first auto grow) I waited and waited and waited and the amber never really showed up.

I've read since that some auto varieties don't ever amber up and there are also some auto varieties where the fan leaves never yellow. I was sort of hoping that there was some magic way to tell if you were growing one of the varieties that never shows amber.

Also, though I know Mephisto is pretty good about accurately stating how long it takes until harvest, I've read that a great many seed makers count their harvest date as the " first possible date to harvest" (i.e. when some of the trichomes just start to turn cloudy) and that's going to be way to early for most folks.

Yeah I had the same problem on my first auto grow. And I've read the same things, so that's why I look at several factors to determine when it's time to chop. I also try to find other peoples grows of the same strain to get a rough idea on how long they will go. The AFN family has always been real helpful in making the call to chop. Have you got a grow going now @Nuggz? If so, ya need to put a link to your grow in your signature so we can find it. Makes it much easier for other members to pop in and take a look. If ya don't know how, just ask.
